#1466, "Help, Will 18x8s Rub With..."

I'm new to the boardand have looked in the archives but have not found a definitive answer. Thank you in advance for all your help.

Will 18x8s rub with pro-kit springs? (on stock struts if it makes a difference) I don't want to cut or roll my fender wells. Also, I read something about having to cut the bumpstop on the front, is this totally necessary if you lower the car?

You always have to cut the bump stops when you lower your car, it's not that big of a deal.

I have 18X8 with 225/40's and they don't rub. I have Eibach Sportline springs with Tokico struts, well, they kinda do, but only on the pasenger back side, and that's cause I have a heavy ass box with 2 10's in my trun Can't live with out BASS!! And it only rubs when I make a HARD left turn.

If you do not cut the stops (recommend 1/2) you will be bottoming out all the time on the stops. This allows your car to ride better with more travel.

So, if I understand this correctly, 18x8s with Pro-kits and the bumpstops cut 1/2 inch will not rub. How do you cut the bumpstops? Also, do all the bumpstops need cut?

cut em all, there's only 1 per strut. Just cut them in half, it's not a big deal, really simple, you'll see when you get it all apart.

its not exactly easy though. first of all, my coilovers are set to low to thread the nut on the strut with the bumpstops installed (unless i get a compressor...im not) so i had to leave the stops out. secondly, cutting the bumpstops easy? i went at them with scissors, razors and the damn jigsaw and made an indention about as deep as a hair. screw it.

Actually cutting the yellow bumpstops should be really easy. We just used one of those small razor blades (little ghetto ones, not a knife or anything) and it cut through pretty easy. Just cut it in the middle, so you get more travel.

They're a piece of cake. Put them in a vise and take a hacksaw to them, 1, maybe 2 swipes and they're cut in half. They're just a rubber-like material.

How do you do this skrilla? Is it something that anybody can do or does a body shop or something have to do it?
