#14657, "AWD Sway bars"

Would swaybars from a 2G AWD TSI fit a FWD DSM? Everone that I have talked to said that they are the same exact thing, except for the width. Even the part numbers from the dealership are the same. But when my mechanic tried to put them on they said that they completely didnt fit.

Does anyone know if they really are a perfect fit for our cars? Do they have to be modified in some way to make them fit?

Yes, they fit. I have the front and rear sway bars off a 95 TSi AWD on my 97 GS.

Did it take anything special to put yours in? Or did they just bolt in?

They bolted right on. The front sway is exactly the same as ours, only a little thicker I believe. The rear is MUCH thicker than the stock GS sway! The TSi AWD rear sway will have some extra bends in it because of their rear driveshaft, but it still fits fine.

Sorry, I trashed it. I know it would've been an upgrade for the RS, but not by much. It was really thin, about as thin as a pencil!! The AWD rear sway bar is about as thick as my thumb...a BIG difference!!

A friend of mine that drives a AWD Talon is thinking about going with RM sways soon, so I'll post his stock sways in the For Sale list when he is ready to sell them.

remember if you have an rs you have to replace the lower control arms or else there is nowhere for the endlinks to mount to.
