I just got my new Yokahoma AVS ES 100 tire put on last week. Love these tires! But I notice the old guy that put them on didn't use the weights I had on my rims before. Also when I switched off the 18's in September I got my tires aligned. So my questions are, should I pay another $60 for an aligment? Should I worry that the rims don't have the weights anymore. The car handles great and no shakes, no leaning toward any perticular side, but I don't want to ruin these tires. HELP! TIA

You don't need to spend a dime bro. An alignment is only needed if something has altered the suspension geometry (AKA lowering, or crashing into a curb like some peeps here, also sometimes necessary after many thousands of miles). If all you do is change the rims, tires, or rotate tires, you don't need to do an alignment at all. If your old tires were okay (as in no weird wear pattern) then it's likely your toe in and camber are fine so your new tires will wear as well as the old. The best thing you can do to increase tire longitivity is just rotate them often.


As for the weights, they don't put them on if they don't need them! You had your wheels balanced, right? Weights are only necessary if the wheel and tire combo have a substantial mass imbalance to begin with. It's kind of unusual that your wheels are so perfect to begin with that not a single one needed a weight. Hmmm, must be manufactured pretty well. Anyways, if you say you're steering well isn't shaking at speed than you have nothing to worry about!

if he balanced the tire and then it didn't need any weights it means the tire was good very round and perfect, the tire guys should never use your old weights he may have used a different kind of weigh also tape on inside the wheel....
