so im drivin around last night behind this new beemer, and i hear this awful screechin noise, the kinda noise u hear when an old caddy rolls by u..

well, it freaked me out, so i pulled into the first parkin lot, turnd my music down, and heard the noise followin me... after i stopped, the noise went away, and i didnt hear it again..

this mornin on the way to werk, i heard it again.... it is cummin from the rear brakes, and it changes when i tap the brakes, but still produces similar noise when im tappin on the brakes...

my rear pads/rotors have 77,000miles on em, and my front pads have about 30k, and the rotors 77k....

the noise isn't comin from the front, imo...

what my question is, what do i look for when i tear into her???
im thinkin that the pads are worn down to the metal deal, so it's rubbin on the rotor creatin the noise, but what about the noise when im just cruisin???? could the pads be loose, and rattlin around touchin the rotor creatin the noise???

could it be my bearings??? i dun think so, but id rather throw the question out there so yall comment on it...
like i said, the noise is cummin from the rear, and when i hear it, if i tap on the brakes, i hear the noise, and a similar scrapin noise (due to the tappin).....

One of my rear brakes is making that same noise. Sometimes at cruise i hear a squeal, and when i tap my breaks it goes away. I am replacing my pads this weekend. So hopefully that will fix it.

It could possibly a caliper sticking a bit, that would be the first place I would check.

yep sounds like your pads are gone on the rear, or the caliper pin needs some grease cause its stickin' but that would be a random noise usually sometimes it will make the noise sometimes not

welp, the noise is random, so it may be the caliper pin... where the F is that??? i am somewhat familiar w/the brakes, but dunno exactly what the caliper pin is...

i will be gettin the lifetime pads for the rear, and prolly resurface the stock rotors....

what kinda grease do i need to lube up the caliper pin??? i dun have mychiltons handy, so if its in there, i will find out later...

yeah my caliper pins were not sliding nicely so I just used regular grease (I actually use it to lube up my garage door track) and the caliper pins are the bolts you take off the remove the caliper, just grease them up and make sure that rubber boot fits correctly and isnt pinched

But it sounds to me like you need new pads

when pads get low, there is a warning device that touches the rotor to let you know your pads are thin. It will sound like absolute shit and embarass the fuck out of you if you let them get that low. I had the fronts do that shit b4, and it sucked bad driving home. People were looking at me like, that's a POS. Probably what it is. Is it a really loud metal grinding/ chalk board scratching noise? If so, I'll bet that's it. You need new pads. If not, grease the pins.
