I just ordered some 235/40zr17 Ypkohama AVS intermediates and here's what they will be going on:

They are 17x7.5 with a 45 mm offset. The color is gunmetal. $520 for all 4, including center caps shipped to Ohio. Only 16.5 lbs each. Man, I reccomend that some of you guys check out the wheels Rota makes. They are REALLY strong, most are light, and the main thing, they're cheap as hell. Here's a few sites that have them: revolutionsmotorsports.com
jaydm.com
machiii.net

You did get 5x114.3 on the lugs, right? I've looked at the rota wheels, but it seems all the ones i like don't have the correct lug pattern. A lot of their wheels are only 4 lug it seems (or maybe that's just the places I look).

Yeah, I got the 5 bolt pattern spaced 114.3mm like we require. Alot of the honda style wheels only come in 4 bolt. The Tarmac, Battle, Subzero, and Slipstream all come in 5 bolt.

They only seem to have +45 or +48mm offset. Are either of these good for our cars?

The 45 mm offset is fine w/ a 17x7.5" wheel. The 48mm would PROB work, but I think the tire would be getting pretty close to some of the suspension. If you happened to find what you wanted and it was only in a 48 mm offset, you could try it and if it didn't work, you could get a set of 5mm spacers, which would make the wheels fit about perfectly. This is just my rambling. I haven't tried all these sizes, but I am comparing them with the sizes that I have had in the past and how much clearance they provided w/ various offsets. Hope this makes some sense.

ok once again. 235 40 is to wide. 225/40 is 8 inches wide. i understand you have the tires already so watch your air pressures and remember the pressure will rise as you drive.

I've ran 235mm wide tires for a long time now on several different wheels w/ no ill effects. They fit fine.

the 235's are cool and all but becareful with a 7.5 wide...it will cause the sidewalls to bow in and cause the tire to look like this...
\ /
l l
/ \
which isnt good for the tire ...you take all the flexing out of the tire which in turn is a crappy a$$ ride
