#12316, "I need brakes...like, yesterday!!!"

I was driving yesterday...and heard a screeching from my front driver side wheel. when I finally stopped to investigate, I noticed that the outermost part of the brake (about 1/8 inch) looked like something was dragging against it, the gash on it is pretty bad and the screeching is starting to annoy me...what could be causing this? something from the caliper dragging on the rotor?

I was waiting for my rims to get some 'big brakes' put on, but safety is my concern now, I don't want my brakes to be giving out when I need them the most...

I was looking at Summit for parts and here is what I found...good, bad...suggestions...or should I go with something completely different...I have about $300 to get this done (just the fronts for now, the rears are fine), so nothing to expensive please (I'll also be doing this myself, hope it ain't too hard to do)...

Brembo Rotors--$39.95 ea
~OR~
PowerStop Rotors--$71.39 ea
VGX Pads--$54.95
Goodridge Brake Lines--$129.95

If you know of cheaper places to get anything, or parts that are better for around the same price, please let me know ASAP!!! TIA!!!

LOL. yes a shop will charge more than $100 for your front breaks. where i worked that work would be about $200. a locally owned shop or a shop specializing in brakes will usually charge 80-100 a wheel. sounds like your pads worn down to the rivets that hold the pad material on and now the rivet is digging into your rotor.

if it's a deep gash your going to need new rotors. if not you could throw some pads in until you have the cash for the upgrade. check your inspection sticker and see when your due. if you can do the upgrade before inspection than i'd say just throw some cheap pads on till you can get the upgrades.

if inspection is due soon, goto your local NAPA or similar and get a generic rotor from them. i paid $20 per rotor when i did mine, same price for turning them. good alternative if you can't do the upgrade rigth away. good way to check your rotors is to feel for pulsing of your brake pedal while braking. if you feel a pulse it could be time for a shave

either way do the work yourself. brakes are easy work unless they haven't been done in awhile or your a real asshole on your brakes.

thanks beefgg for the sig

You could get the www.Raceconcepts.net dimpled and slotted for $90 for the front with the ASOG discount. That's what I have right now. They look pretty good. They use Brembo stock rotors which they then machine.

$h!+...I need the rotors by tomorrow now, the sound is really unbearable...slowing down, speeding up...it's always there, I'm just gonna' go back to NAPA and get the rotors from them, should've done that in the first place instead of waitin' around...DAMN IT!!!
