#12232, "Any light weight wheels out there?"

I am looking for a set of winter rims, but I am also looking for something light. I am going to put drag radials on them after the winter. Anybody know of some lightweight stock wheels out there? I have heard RX-7's are light any others?

There are several light wheels. Don't know if you want to spend the amount of money they cost for some winter wheels. You are almost better off using your stockers or finding some cheap stockers. Konig makes the Helium wheels, I believe Velox has a new light wheel, and of course the abot mentioned Volk Racing wheels. There are others, look in import magazines and you'll find some.

BTW what wheels do you have and are they painted black or powder coated? I love the way your car looks with the black on black scheme. Looks mean as hell. I'm in the process of doing the say to my 97 ESI.

enkei 5+ are light, 17x7 are about 17lbs, but 15's would probably be lighter. other than that, Jazz from discount tire. they be light, just aren't gonna go on my car.

light wheels cost money and are usually for racing so they have a nice finish. not ideal for winter rims that will get dirty in raind snow and slush. best bet would be to get something in a 17 to replace what you have now and use stockers as winters.

3rd generation Mazda RX-7 rims weigh 13.8 lbs each or 6 lbs each, I forget which and I think it is dependant on which year you get.

Also, wheels from a Mazda Milleneia also fit on DSMs (an AWD owner I know has them, they're chrome too) They weigh 17 lbs for a 17 inch rim!

These wheels might be a bit hard to find but they are much cheaper than a light aftermarket wheel.

I'm surprised no one mentioned ROTA wheels. They're light as hell and equally strong. Go to jaydm.com or revolutionsmotorsports.com. There are all kindss of nice styles for cheap money.

The problem with the wheels you guys mentioned is that they have a nice finish. One Chicago winter and they will look like poop. The rims I have now are Nippon Racings in gunmetal. I already sold my stock wheels and tires(dummy)x( , so now I am looking for something light and good for the winter. I might be able to get a good deal from somebody around here aka HOT. I really like the Rota subzeros, but I don't think the finish would last in the salt that they put on these roads.

Most rotas are available in a flat black finish, but also gloss black and bronze, too. From what I've seen, flat black doesnt seem to be bothered too much from the elements. Shit hose them off and dry them. I don't even scrub mine. they llok the same either way.
