#11806, "Are there ball joints in the rear???"

I put my car up on a jack last night and gave a nice tug at the wheel - no play, looked over all the nuts and bolts - one was loose -- tightened it as much as I could -- if you are looking at the suspension it is the one at the back with the nut on top of the arm -- have no idea what it is called. Noise is still there -- what next?

What other bolts would allow noise with up and down (like when you go over a bump) movement.

Please help -- this is driving me nuts and making me scared to drive the car.

Thanks.

ok.. apparently i may be having this same problem.. i have just sorta tried to deal with it, and after taking my rear suspensino apart again recently trying to locate the problem and fix it i had no luck. i suspect that the final culprit could be the shocks themselves even though i am running illuminas and i only got them back in feb and its only the rear drivers side that is doing it. like above its sorta like a clanking sound, but not really metal on metal and only over bumps or bumpy roads. i suppose i might have call in my lifetime warrenty and get a new shock if this is the case. also as far as i know there is no ball joint in the back.. all of them should use bushings and i know mine are fine since i had them all replaced back in oct of last year with urethane ones.. i suppose the noise almost sounds like the spring is bouncing on the perch, but i dont know how it could be doing that. stupid suspension crap. its always something i suppose.

I have the clank clank on my rear driver side as do many eclipses. Besides what ^^^ said, your problem could also be that you are using KYB AGX shocks. They are known to be the wrong length for our cars and pretty much cancel out your suspension travel if i remember correctly. Look in arcvhives about those struts or someone else can probably answer it for you.

well, I've got stock stuts. the noise is only on the driver's side, too, and its only when I go over rough/bumpy sections in the road. I can go outside my car, push down over the driver's rear strut tower, and rock it with a lot of travel and there is no noise, weird.
