How hard is it to replace an axle on our car?

My drivers side is making ticking noises only on that side when I turn hard. This is a symptom of a broke axle, correct? If this is fairly simple to do, I'd like to buy the part and do it myself at home.

That's a bad CV joint.

Corbin has a writeup on it, check the Mods page.
