I installed new discs and took off the calipers to paint them, about 3-4 mo ago. Bled the brakes really well with the correct brake fluid, torqued everything down to specs...


The day after, the brake light went on, and then went off a few hours later. Stayed off for half a month. It then came on a couple weeks later, went off for a couple days, and then started to show up just about every couple of days.

Now it shows up every single day, it's on for my entire morning commute. If I turn off the car and come back to the car in a few minutes, the light will be off for the drive. If I don't restart the car until a few hours later, the brake light will come on again and stay on for the entire trip. The brake fluid is at the proper level. There are no leaks.

What is going on!!!

check your brake fluid under the hood......

Yeah mine just started doing this today. I havn't checked my fluid yet but it feels like my brake is not completely disengaging because the handle has some play in it when it is all the way down. Like this morning I hit a pretty good bump on the highway and the light went off for the remainder of the ride. After I parked for a bit and drove it again the light stayed on again. What would cause the e-brake to not fully disengage? Is it the brake itself that triggers the light or the handle being all the way down?

there's a little plastic thing that attaches to the pedal back-part (where the sensor touches). sorry, not sure if you can understand that, but if you can, make sure its there

OZ.... check your fluid.... same thing mine did once and fluid was just a little low....filled it up and light has been off since...

Strange cuz I checked my fluid and it is right in the middle between max and min. My light finally went off and has not done it again since. I am going to top off the fluid tomorrow just to be sure thats not it. Hopefully the problem won't come back.

Maybe I was parked on an incline or something and it tripped the sensor who knows.

anybody know what's up with my car though? man, maybe I have to go to satan. The car is still under the 3 yr warrany, but the brakes are probably no longer covered b/c I painted the calipers and put on rotors, huh?

Take in in anyways. I really doubt b/c they are painted with new rotors that the warranty has voided out.

I'm still thinking that the fluid might be low to possibly a mistake in bleeding them. The light is really sensitive to any indication of fluid being too low.

thanks jason, even though you have no faith in my brake bleeding abilities I'm gonna put some more fluid in even though it's in the normal range now and see what happens....

Ha! Nothing personal man. I've messed up in bleeding my brakes before, so we're all human. I don't have it in front of me, but there's also a proper sequence in bleeding the brakes too, meaning front-left, rear-right...etc. ( I don't have that in front of me though)

Just for the record guys, I did exactly what Jason said to do a week ago and the light hasn't come on since. CrAzY if you ask me - b/c the fluid was in the correct range. I just filled it up until it was 2 mm below the MAX, put the cap on (it actually overflowed, I didn't realize that the cap has a concave bottom which pushes the fluid level up.) and now no red light!

Muchos gracias Jason - this thing has been driving me nuts for a few months. I was sure it was a prob at the caliper and that I would have to take apart them so I was putting it off. Just for that, you get rated
