I know a guy offering me the brake setup from a 2nd gen vr-4. I know they are huge brakes but he says they will fit if i have 17's from a Spyder. well, i have aftermarket 17's (konig monsoon) but will they still fit? or can they be modded? Thnx

no, i believe the 17s on the spyder are the same size as on the eclipses. You need a large wheel, like the vr4 wheel, which is 8.5 inches wide, to fit those brakes. I think the offset on those wheels are different too, which gives it more room.

If you're talking about 3000GT VR-4 brakes, they won't bolt up.

Im just talkin about the calipers. Is there a way to get them on(non-bolt-up)? and will they clear my 17in wheels? i think i read in the vfaq that they can with some modification but if anybody knows anything more i would appreciate it. Thnx

There used to be a guy on DSMTalk that had done the VR-4 brake conversion. He was sponsered by Quwhees and went by the name Widebody. I haven't seen him on there on a while.

I've wondered before as to what it would take to get those brakes on the Eclipse. Maybe just some custom brackets would get those calipers to fit up.

I’m not sure if we share the same steering knuckle geometry with the 3000GT guys. However at the price of all those parts and rotors you’re probably looking of around $700 plus the labor. You’re probably better off just upgrading to GSX calipers and/or AEM Big Brake kit (stock caliper and bigger rotor)

I still think that it should be possible to design a bracket to mount the VR-4 caliper to the caliper bolts. If you’re in the New England area and have access to your the VR-4 for measurements I could probably help you design a bracket to fit it (I’m a mechanical engineer). This is something I’ve wanted to do as well, but I don’t have access to a VR-4

yeh they won't bolt up they require fabrication but those brakes are badass, they have the words MITSUBISHI on them hehe. If you ask me though that's overkill unless your car is really really fast and do some crazy ass race course driving. There have been some on the 3SI board that have converted their front base model dual piston calipers to the VR4 calipers though, so that means it can be done for us.
