I'm thinking of just going with aftermarket struts, b/c I want a lot of COMFORT. Don't flame me... just pretend I'm grandpa for the moment or something.

I would get aftermarket springs, but only if their was something with the ~1.5" or less drop (like prokits) that has spring rates just like stock or sportlines. Yes, I'm not trying to get a race track setup, I want a comfortable cruiser on the freeway since I've been driving such long distances recently (wish I lived closer to the beach!)

It says that with koni yellows, you actually drop the car 1" on stock springs! Wazza? I wonder if it more comfortable too...

Anyone else done this with say, tokico blues, bilstein (never heard anything about those on 2gnt but other boards say they rock), and did you notice a drop and better comfort? A 1" drop might be kinda cool for me, given my driveway...

Yes that would be a super comfy ride, and yes you can drop the koni yellows 1", which would get rid of alot of wheel gap. and the ride would be like or better than stock

if you dont want a big drop you can get the H&R OE Sport springs, which are about 1" drop..

I have aftermarket shocks (KYB AGXs) with stock springs. The ride can be anything from comfy (pretty much like stock) to very stiff (since the AGXs are adjustable). Sticking with the stock springs is not a bad idea at all, if you don't mind being at stock ride height

mcgyvr- are you saying you used yellows w/ stock springs before and the car dropped and inch, or you "can drop" with yellows, inferring that you must use aftermarket springs for a drop?

youarenotwhoyouare-actually it's not the drop that's the biggest concern for me (1.5 would be cool), it's the spring rate. I want kindof a low rate. Are those H&R sports pretty stiff? I know that the H&R's that give the sportline equivalent of a drop are very stiff.

The koni yellows have a clip in them that holds the perch in place, they have 2 grooves on the shock body, the top groove is stock height and if you want the bottom groove lowers the car (with stock springs) approx 1". That would be your best option, to just get koni yellows and put the clip on the lower groove. That would be perfect for you, a 1" drop but you still retain factory ride, if not a little better because you now can adjust damper

Anybody else know of other struts out there which lower the car too? Koni yellows are cool, but if I can find a non-adjustable that would be even better (since I know I will never adjust them)

I did not know Koni yellows did that!! That may be the option I go with as I am tired of leaving paint on speed bumps and curbs.

I emailed shox.com for a quote on koni sports (also called koni yellows I believe) and they said that they do not come with an adjustable spring perch - that it won't lower the car at all. Then they recommended some H&R springs. Hey now!


Jason, let's you and I find out more about these "adjustable spring perch" struts. it sounds like we are both interested in the same setup. I'll post with whatever info I can find.

I wouldn't need a dampning adjustable function on the struts anyway, so the yellows would be overkill. I'd prefer if the dampning was non-adjustable, that way they are cheaper as well.

I just emailed shox.com if they carry any other brands of struts that will lower the car.

for the H&R OE Sports.. i know they are stiffer than stock, but i dont think they are that much stiffer. i think they are accually softer than prokits. oe sprorts are about 15-20% stiffer than stock and i think the prokits are stiffer than that maybe 30ish%. but yeah that shock thing could be your answer. there was a guy that had some of those shocks on the board, but i havent seen him in awhlie and i think he sold his car. ill have to find him and ask.

I'm starting to think that would be a good combo - H&R OE, if you are sayin' they are only 15-20% stiffer than stock and less stiff than prokits, for a 1" drop. And then on top of that a 1" drop using the koni adjustable spring perch (if I can find somewhere that has the adjustable spring perch)

I did a general websearch and it looks like there are aftermarket adjustable spring perches that you can buy to go on whatever struts you already own. That would be perfect - I could put them on some tokicos are perhaps the koni reds (anything that is nonadjustable so less expensive) I'll see if I can find more info...
