#286, "Camping at the track..."
Jul-05-06 03:15 PM by XtremeRS

Me and a friend of mine have decided to camp out at the track this year, instead of the hotel thing. We all like camping, and the details sound pretty good. He has been in touch with a track employee about camping there during the shootout, and here are the details..

Admission is 15 for friday, 12 for saturday, and 15 for sunday(35 if racing). Track gates open friday at 5 pm, sites are first come, first serve, including the electrical hookup sites. No other fee's due. I"ve heard that they have WI-FI connections for cheap as well. You can leave/come back as you wish, even in the middle of the night, but you must be there early sunday morning for the set up of the event, because the gates will be shut. You can have alcohol, camp fires, grills, ect..You can also stay there at the track, friday, sat, sun, and through monday morning if you wish.

I think this will be fun, and save quite a bit of money in the process. Also being able to come and go as we please, means we can still go to the hotel gatherings emoji If anyone else is interested in camping as well, let me know, so we can get sites all together for the 2gnt people..

You know, that sounds like it could be a good idea. I've not been camping in ages. Just don't know about getting gear out there. Hmm... might even be worth buying camping for the entire weekend and getting like six or seven guys to chip in on a hotel room for showers and whatnot during the weekend. Four guys splitting a hotel room at Amerihost would only run about $100 each for the entire weekend. I wonder...

This does sound like a good idea. I never did make a hotel reservation, and knew that time was running out if it hasn't already. I might be able to talk my old man into letting me use the 6 man tent we have...that way if others need a place crash its there. Just an idea at this point though.

I wonder if I can fit a sleeping bag into my suitcase (or make it my carry on...)?

You should be able to brian. How many suitcases are you going to have? Just make sure you don't leave any shivs in it before checking it in.

edit: i meant, take it as a carry on or extra baggage. don't waste a suitcase on it.

Just borrow some blankets from the hotel. It's going to be hot enough where you shouldn't need a sleeping bag...

Nope...no room yet. Camping is fine with me...I like cheepness factor of it. What I'll probably do is bring a couple gallons of water, keep one in the car for a warm shower in a bottle, and one in a cooler for drinking and what not.

Besides I'll probably need the money I saved on hotel room for getting the Talon hauled back home. emoji LOL

Considering i have no idea what my room room status is, i might be open to this idea. Without Thura going, it's going to be an expensive solo trip for me.

Ok Kent, sounds good..So far my tent is spoken for, but I do have another 4 man tent, which you can comfortably get 2-3 in.. I was thinking too, if we have the room to do it, is to get like a vollyball set or badmittin set or something as well..dont know if we can take that much space or not though..I need to find out about the fire thing too, because I have a 30" round fire pit thing at my house i can bring, but if we can have a simple fire ring, that may work better and less to haul..Get something to cook food over the fire, buy food in Norwalk, and all should be set. Bring my laptop and external speakers and watch some DVD's at night lol.

dang you all, but i dont know. i like having lights and beds, and showers, and other random stuff that i wouldnt get while camping. sure it is cheap, but you get what you pay for. a camp fire sounds cool, but i would get over it as soon as i started stinkin like smoke.

rain sucks, especially in a tent.

yea. every year at the hotel, ive had tons of fun. for the most part thats where everyone will be staying, whether its 2gnters or other DSMers. i wont disagree that camping would be fun, but for this venue i would rather be at the hotel with most everyone else. all the cars, the camaraderie, etc.

the only thing i request is a 1st floor room, sans window screen heh. if you are camping though matt, ill take the reservation off your hands. if cost is that much of an issue, i can pick up some of the tab for though. i would rather have everyone stay together in one place, and i dont see that if half of us are going camping.

yeah i know what you mean...that's the ONLY thing that holds me back in a way..Already it seems like some 2gnt'ers are staying at one hotel, while others are staying at another, so its already split up..I believe most are staying at the Amerihost though, which is where i have a room..Only thing is, if I decide not to camp, its going to be, my girl, and my one friend already in the room..I can at least fit one more for sure, but not sure about 2 more lol...

Is your friend the guy we had with us last year? I don't remember his name...all I remember is he was on the phone 50% of the time he was awake. LOL

I personaly think we could get 5 in a room...if you and your girl share some space. I just request no boom-shocka-locka while I'm around. LMAO. I don't need to hear that, especially since I'm going to be away from the wife for 4 days. I don't mind the floor...it's dry and we have A/C. Otherwise I'm sure I can find some space with someone else too. Or if everyone goes camping I'm cool with that too.

lol yeah its the same guy, Tim, with the barcelona red RS..I really think the camping thing may not pan out this year, as we have been talking more about it with the people i was going to camp with..I dont mind 5 people in the room personally, and i wouldnt worry about any kinky shit going on hahah..i need privacy for that haha..5 people would help bring down the room cost as well..It would be about 75 bucks each person for all 3 nights, for 5 people, or about 90 bucks each for 4 people.

I think camping at the track would be a lot of fun, providing there are a lot of the crew there. Maybe next year we can organize something larger to do so, who knows..There's gota be people on here that have access to campers, and pop-up campers,rv's, ect..that would be for the people who are not so outdoor oriented lol.. I dont really want to miss out on haning with the 2gnt crew..thats a lot of the reason I love going to the SO every year..Just a great group of people on here that's nice to chill with once a year.

I'm 100% about camping it up. Funds are inredibly low here and it sounds sweet camping right at the track. I don't have plans for a hotel yet anyway, so as long as a few of you will be camping out I'm definetally in. I'll be a little more social this year. I won't be bringing a girlfriend this year, we just broke up a few weeks ago. Hopefully I can get a few friends together.
