#696, "New MS question from an MS newb..."

so..... does/can the MS run extra injectors as in an 8-inj system, or is that the whole idea of the MS to be able to run large injectors for boosted apps and still be able to "dail in" a correct idle?

i know its a full stand-alone unit, but as far as the injectors go is what im lookin to know right now...

the reason i ask is i have noticed with my 034EFI, since it has no intake temp sensor and no means to adjust fuel for air density (ambient temp changes) that i get fuel cut when i drive over mountain passes or when its colder outside. (this was discussed before on here)

so, im curious about other options that are able to compensate for that little issue.

thanx

Yes, you can run the MS with 8 injectors rather easily. In the "extra" code versions, you can run whats called "injector staging". You still use 1 VE map for tuning, but you can program when the secondaries turn on(map/rpm). Basically you have 2 injector drivers from the MS, and we usually run 2 injectors per driver. If you want to run staged injection, you wire up driver 1 to all 4 of your primary injectors, then driver 2 to your secondaries. In the MS code, it tells the driver 2 circuit to fire the secondaries to wherever you have programmed it, and can tune all 8 injectors using only 1 main VE map. It's pretty neat how it works, and I have even debated trying this, but I run 680cc injectors, which are large, but it still runs great anyway. Those injectors are good for at least 400-450HP anyway. I really dont think staged injection would be necessary, unless you are pushing shitloads of power with huge injectors, and still want the car to idle/cruise like stock. Even still, the MSII is going to be available in the next 2-3 months, which is basically a plug in daughter card for the existing MS, and will have 100 times the injector resolution(1us, compared to the .1ms). I would think this would provide great idle control and drivability with extremely large injectors.

It corrects for the incoming air temperature. It also uses the map sensor before the engine starts to grab the atmospheric pressure, so if you are up in the mountains and start your car, it will compensate for the altitude. The only problem with this is if you were to go through a major elevation change without stopping (cutting the engine off and grabbing a new value).

The MSII will be able to correct for barometric pressure in realtime, for you freaks who will be doing Pike's Peak. The MSII will also be able to control our IAC valve, in theory. Unfortunately they are all sold out and it will not be avaiable for a few months, unless you take the schematic and design your own board from scratch, and idea that I've been toying with for a while.

Also, I do not believe that the popular "-extra" code has been ported to the new MSII microprocessor.
