There are quite a few people working on the boost controller part of the MSnS code. I'll probably be trying it out once I get mine built. If I'm lucky I'll have mine working on the stimulator tonight or tomorrow.

Don't forget that the whole MS thing is *experimental* and quite DIY - if you're looking for something to plug in and have it work instantly like a S-AFC you shouldn't be buying a MS.

EDIT: For the latest (and best) MSnS information, look on msefi.com

Howdy.

Basically an update of what I'm running on my Ms setup right now:

Complete fuel control
Complete ignition control, spark is now under MS control.
300kpa MAP sensor, good for 29psi.
Boost controller, still finishding hooking this up.
Launch control, tested, sure is fun
Nitrous control, just gotta fill up a tank to actually test it
Nitrous anti-lag, see above...
3 stage shiftlight.
EGT input

Things that I am still working on testing are:
Knock detection
Electronic BOV feature that I came up with

And a few other things that I forget right now...
If anyone has any questions, hit me up.

TXTurboGs, you got PM.

Your pretty much on target with the BOV thing... I don't know if it's usefull or not, but will stop the BOV from opening at idle and low rpm/no boost situations... so it's worth a try.

And the MS is still goign strong, although it's pretty much out of RAM... So not really any more features that can be added...

So go down to Best Buy and buy some more RAM, like two 128 SDRAM ought to do it

Can't you order the microprocess with more memory? I found a few microprocessors that are relatively cheap that are a bit faster, more memory, with 10-bit (as opposed to MS's 8-bit) inputs, so accuracy will be a little more precise. I was thinking about trying to convert part of the MS code over and use a different microprocessor that can handle a little bit more (was a 40mhz chip as opposed to the 32mhz they currently use.) I have a bit more research to do before I start ordering parts and designing on a breadboard, but hopefully I can get it working with ports, ram, and speed to spare. I see that they have a gcc port, so that is a possibility for ease of converting.

There are a few similar, but this is the one i'm currently looking into:

I believe that the processor used for the MS2 and the UMS will take care of the memory shortage...?

Yepper.

Hopefully my db37 cable comes today so I can install my MS. I got just about everything ready to go. Just need to tap in the coolant temp sensor.

The way it works is the current Ms processor used, has run out of RAM in which to assign more variables... most of the code is just run from the ROM, but all variables must be put into the RAM.
All this means is theres not much room for any more features... but, the current code is VERY flexable... with 4 user definable outputs... as well as some spare inputs that can be used for things like Traction control, or EGT or fuel pressure monitoring... things like that.

The next version of MS, called MS-II, will have 4 time the RAM... so if we convert the msns-extra code over to that, then we can start adding more stuff... but the cirrent list of features is very extensive.

Also, the MS only actually runs at 8Mhz...

If anyone has any more questions.. feel free to ask.

slick i have an avcr and i have glassed a hole in the dash for it. can i still use it with the ms? just not the ms boost control, or will it help it out also? traction control would be a good thing. especially if we are running hi psi
definately interesting. thanks for you time in developing it for the 2g and for the time to respond to my questions even if they may seem silly.

Not silly questions... and nice to finally see a pic of your car in your sig!

Anyway, yeah you can still have the boost controlled the same way you have it. That's no problem.

The traction control is under development... but in theory could use the stock ABS sensors if so equiped on your car...

Yeah Mine's an RS too...

But I have a theory that the Tranny speed sensor could be used as the driven wheel's sensor... and that the adition of one ABS wheel bearing and sensor on one rear wheel would work

The code stuff for knock detection is in place, and the hardware is deisgned... I just haven't tested it yet

LMAO.. that's pretty funny

OK, here's how it works...

The ABS sensors are just Vehicle Speed Sensors on each wheel...
By comparing one of the driven wheels, to one of the undriven wheels (comparing the speed, and accel) you can see if your losing traction on the driven wheels.. and do something about it

You can retard the ignition, and reduce boost if you have boost control...
also possible are other things..

Aparently they're configured toi produce 8000 pulses per mile
Not sure if that's true or not...

But yeah that's pretty much how ABS works... you compare the speed of each wheel... if one or all are getting close to locking up, as determined by the rate of decel, and the speed, then the system compensates for this by doing the old ABS on-off pressure trickery...

Anyways, the cpu used in MS uses 512 bytes of ram, while the CPU I linked has ~4k, so about 8 times as much. It runs on a 10mhz bus, but the cpu itself runs at 40mhz (4x clock multiplier). I was under the impression that the MS cpu used an 8mhz bus with a 4x multiplier (so 32mhz total), but am not that familiar with the cpu offhand. I am sure it has 8 8-bit analog inputs, while the CPU I am looking at has 10 10-bit, which may be overkill, but hey, more never hurts . I know the CPU used in the MS is far superior to most common standalone CPU's, so it is in no way a bad unit! I will hopefully be designing a circuit for this cpu in the near future and see what I can do about porting some of the MS code or rewrite it from scratch to do what I need. Anyways, if it falls through, I may be looking for you to get an MS setup that way I know it comes complete and ready to go/do what I need.

Well the MS code is written entirelly in Assembly Language... so unless you get a cpu from the same familly... it would need a total re-write

The MS-II code however is in C... but msns-extra hasn't been ported to it yet... so no 420A crank decoder exists for the MS-II yet...

I'm running MS, with the msns-extra code... that's how we get the cool shit.
