#4726, "MS & Dis-2 questions."

96 2gnt...

had a couple questions about MS & Dis-2.

a couple weeks had my MS modded to control ignition timing. went to shop where my car was being worked on..long story short they were uneasy about changing any wiring i did ...i got sick of waiting and waiting for them to do anything so finally went up today and decided to do the 3 wire change myself. after about 30min i got my car running again.

now the car started fine and seems to be running fine sitting there, when using msd by-pass jumper. so while there i decided to try to hook up the dis-2. and when i did car won't turn over. it cranks but thats it. didnt even try to turn over.

so i did normal checking. has good ground, constant power, & ignition power. i am using the msd 8912 ignition adapter. was wondering if i need it or if maybe a setting may be wrong or, worst case, dis-2 is bad.

like i said car runs fine when dis-2 is bypassed... sorry i know i don't have alot of information but shop was closing so i had to leave. forgot to check to see where the Waste Spark dial was set.

for now put back in Jumper to bypass dis-2 and car fired right up. figure i would make a quick post since i cant make it to shop every day to check on thier progress bc they are almost a hour away and only day i can make it there is mondays.

i figure it's either bad MSD or wasted spark setting is wrong

thanks for any information

it could be one of those two, or not wired correctly. this is something that MSD's techs would be able to help you with more than 2gnt. They'll have you go through certain stages of testing. call em up.

Are you using the MS to feed/trigger the DIS-2?

I'm not sure how the MS plays into the wiring, but this is how I had the dis2 hooked up, and it worked for me. MS-Paint skills!-

there is no reason to use the tch adapter if your using the MS to trigger the MSD. In the MS you must make sure the spark signal is inverted.
