#3697, "Will this Ignition system work with my 97 Eclipse GS 420a???"

I'm currently looking at this.
http://www.distributorless.com/products/tecgt.php
http://www.distributorless.com/products/crank_trigger/200-73001.php

I'm getting my engine built as we speek, and I want to compleatly trash the stock ignition.

All I need to know will this system work with the 420a???
I will have a shop install it and do an engine dyno while setting it up.
After engine is installed it will be dyno'd and tuned.

I have looked at tons of systems but most are piggyback (require Stock ECU) or made for the 4g63 turbo eclipse...

Oh, I already have a turbo kit and it will be installed after engine is compleated.

I was reading and I do know about some of the problems resulting from removing the ECU harness and ECU.

Wiper, +5 ref voltage for sensors. and um what was it...
oh, alternator also gets power from the ECU. I think its the blue wire.

All those can be fixed, so i'm not really woried.

Oh, I already ordered a main Harness from the dealer. Should have it in the next 2 days.
Dont Ask, it was $800. If i will do it, I will do it right.
Do Not want to cut wires and such. With a new harnes, I can mod it right from the start. Plus, Its a NEW harness.

Currently running up and down the wire diagrams. loking up the wires I need to remove from the Main Harness and rewire them if necessery so everything else works properly.

The +5v TecGT takes care of that. it has all the wires for all sensors. The wiper I will rewire it (havent check up on that yet)...

Now, what does the Blue wire from the ECU to ALT does?
Is it just a regular power wire? Can I just add it to ON of the IGN Switch?

The electromotive looks like it will work fine.

The ECU has a built in regulator for the Alt. You cant just run the blue wire to the Alternator. You need to buy a mopar regulator and wire it in to the alternator. Your other option is to pick up a one wire GM alternator and run a 12+ wire to that. Of course you will need to make a custom bracket to run the GM alternator.

Oh, thank you...
I forgot about that Regulator...

Dumb question... What about the hipower MSD alternator???
It comes with a lot of addapers, I'm sure I can make it fit somehow.

EDIT:

Also It looks like the Brake switch (on the resorvor) may be affected too. But sure yet, But I will look at the wireing and see.

I have just spoke with my friend in a shop that rebuild's and upgrades Alt. He told me to bring it to him and tell him what exactly i'm doing and he will make it work with my setup... So thats fixed.
Plus he can beef it up for me at the same time...
Will buy another alt tomorrow and take it to him. Already have the wireing and what will go in the car. So he can start building it for me. Plus, I'm sure he will eather build a reg into it or just give me a external one. But thats up to him.

I only see a couple of Control and Front harness combinations. So All I need to do is trace and find what those wires do and find a workaround. Lets hope its as simple as it looks.

Have some stupid questions...

Not I already looked over the whole manual... And no answer.

What is the Base Ignition Timing for the 420a??? Is it: 14* Before TDC. or is it different.

This is the base setting in the TecGT software. (WinTec v4.5.25)

Also its a: 4 CYL, 4 Stroke, Sequential/Staged (Is this right?)

Just want to do the basic settings before i give it to the shop to set it. Plus I want to get used to all the settings and options.

The FSM says it's 14* BTDC, however, the entire setup is electronically controlled, so it's really a moot point what the base is. The ECU will adjust it as it sees fit regardless.

Thank you...

The rest is up to the shop then. I'm not sure what else i can change. not to mention all the sensors will be changed anyways.
