That kicks ass, i'm gaining a wealth of information by looking through this stuff. I'm still totally lost, and leaving it to my installer for the most part.
BTW i haven't decided on the flyback circuit yet, Lee, when's my cutoff point?

I would HIGHLY recommend the Mitsu ignitor over he HEI modules. Used ones can be had for about $15 vs $20 a piece for HEI modules that require two.

Just to add, Mallory co-brands an HEI module with ACCEL that has proven to be bullet proof over the years on F-bodies. The Mitsu part would seem to be a more cost effective outlet, but for the extra $5 I can get them at, I personally plan on trying them first.

I'm thinking of going out to the local U-wrench-it, and finding the mitsu ignitor..Is it just a normal wiring harness plug that goes into it, or what? I prob should cut off the connector too then..

From my searching the last couple days for information on these things, I've found out where they are made, how they are wired-up, what they are officially called, and have even been able to find them for about $100 at Autozone online as a special order part, but all of this is USELESS to me if I want to go gank one off a yard car. I've been driving a 4G63 for six months now and I can't figure out what it is. Can someone please post (or email me) a picture of these things? Installed on a 4G63, sitting on a bench, even in Ryan Hesters alabaster hand!

I'm wanting to score mine from the yard and I need to know what I'm looking for, dig?

The 4G63 ignition transistor module looks like this.
The part number on the heat sink is MD149768, it's a bit hard to read because I shrunk down the picture.



I picked up this one for $10 at my local junkyard, it works like it should.

It's pretty easy to lift one of these from a 4G63, it's bolted to the right side of the head only a few inches from the coilpack.

A note about the wiring diagram on the Sourceforge site - the way they illustrate how to hook up the TPS signal is not a very good method. My TPS signal was always very noisy and I would see a lot of spikes, for example… at idle, my raw ADC value for the TPS could be anywhere between 33 and 40, which is a huge range. Sometimes the noise was able to trigger my acceleration enrichment/enleanment, which caused some interesting problems especially at idle. The workaround is to cut the stock ECU out of the loop completely - run +5, the TPS signal, and ground from the MS to directly the TPS. I left the original TPS wires to the ECU taped off. My idle is now MUCH better, the raw ADC value for 0% is now 33-34, AE doesn’t tweak out anymore, and over run fuel cut works consistently.

Interesting find there Nate...I was wondering though, did you try adjusting the TPSdot threshold a bit higher? Usually when you have a "noisy" TPS value, you just raise that threshold so that small spikes dont activate any AE..Although, I have noticed this too at idle..but its only been very, very seldom..I believe I run around 1.172 V/S for threshold or something like that..I will up it a tad bit and see what happens..

Have you tried using the Mapdot AE instead of TPS?? I think i'll go play around with that too..

I started to wire my TPS that way but I'm hesitant because the stock ECU uses the TPS signal when making adjustments to the IAC. Have you noticed any adverse effects on the IAC function?

Well i played around with the mapdot, and it's really touchy..i used some suggested settings, and then tweaked for a bit, and i got it decent, but in between shifts when stepping on the gas, it would buck slightly..Prob needs a lot more tweaking, but i've still had the best sucess with the tpsdot than anything..I didnt see any blips at idle at all tonight using tpsdot. The threshold is still set at 1.172v/s, and just tapped off of the tps sensor wire too. So i dont know..

I'm real curious too how the stock ECU is going to know the motor is at idle to control the IAC, when its not seeing a TPS signal...

It seems to idle alright. Every now and then it will idle around 1500, but after a few seconds of doing that it I guess the ECU figures things out and it goes back to around 800. Kind of annoying, but it's the price I'm willing to pay for a stable TPS signal.

MAPdot seems to be kind of finicky on my setup, I never really got it to work as smoothly as TPSdot.

I've some other weird problems lately related to noise... For example, if I press on the main connector in a certain direction my IAT and CLT values will tweak out by a few degrees. Not good. I pulled apart the connector and I noticed some sketchy connections which were probably from always connecting and disconnecting the thing so I wired up a new connector (pain in the ass) and the problem hasn't gone away yet. Maybe it's a flakey solder connection on the board or something, I don't know. With final projects due this week and finals next week I haven't had much time to debug the thing recently.

EDIT: fixed the weird coolant/intake tempature problem. My vacuum hose that goes from the MAP sensor to the bulkhead fitting was routed under the main connector, touching almost all of the pins. It turns out that the hose I'm using has resistance, I measured about 40-60k ohms per inch. I taped it up with some eletrical tape and it's fine now.
