#3359, "MS1 v3.0 testing issues"

Ok so i just finished my second MS assembly and when i hook up the stim to it i get no communication between the two. I used a brand new 9v battery that tested out at 9.6v, when the stim is connected to MS the battery only reads .5v or less with my voltmeter. I tested the stim when its not connected to MS and everything is great its putting out 9v to pin 28 when its not connected to my MS. As soon as i connect it to MS the battery starts getting hot and i get .5v or less at the battery and at the processor socket i only get .01v where i should be getting 5v. I tested it while assembly and it tested out a perfect 5v at the various pins on the processor socket. This just happened after I added the msns-e error board and modified it for my 420a application. Your help is very much appreciated as i am lost.

MsNS-E error board????? What is this? I am running MS1 v3.0 as well, with squirt and spark, and I don't recall an error board. Check for any flux that may be hidding out between pins.

the error board has all the msns-extra features on a seperate board instead of having to use the proto area.

If your not getting 5v at the socket then check the regulator for 5v output. If you have 5v at te regulator and not at the socket then you have a soldering error. Go back fix all your cold joints and retest.

It's not on just the 5v side its on the 12v side too, i get .5v or less on the 12v side and .05v or less at the various 5v pins at the ecu. Its asthough there is a short on the 12v side. I removed mov1, d10, d11, d12, d13, and c15 then tested for the voltage where mov1 should be and it still is .5v or less. How is this possible? shouldnt removing those components stop the rest of the board from recieving power? How would i go about finding this possible short?

ohh yeah and i thoroughly cleaned the board with isopropyl alcohol, replaced all the components that i removed, and made sure anything that had a polarity was facing the right direction. I am so lost as to what is happening here

Ok another update, i removed u5 ,all my msn's-extra error board wires, and all the ignition wires. I'm still getting the same prob so now i'm down to the regular assembled ms1 v3 board. I just dont get how everything tested out fine when I assembled it and now it seems like there is a short to a ground somewhere.
