#24, "Another Megasquirt question"
Feb-10-05 06:50 AM by Keith2172

Really two questions;
#1: I did the board mod outlined here:
http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/setup-neon.html
well actually just:

Board mods input side Note!!! These instructions need checking
. Remove D5, D8, R10
. Remove jumper between XG1-XG2
. Fit wire between XG1 and right of D5
. Fit wire between bottom of R10 and top of R11 (5v)
. Fit 1.3k resistor in place D8 <1.3k-2k ok>

I was under the impression that this is necessary to make the Megasquirt work with our timing system when using the fueling portion of Megasquirt. Im not really ready to go MSnS yet but now that I've done this do I have to do MSnS or can I still just run it as a fuel computer? I haven't done anything else on that page, I only saw it today, I just did the input side mods.

#2: Exactly what does the computer look for when firing the coil? If one were to want to install a stand-alone management system on his/her car but retain the stock computer in order to maintain certain functions (IAC, Auto transmission, etc.) then, electrically, how would one dupliucate the coil. Would one simply leave the coil connected to the comp but have no sparkplug wires, would I want to run a couple of 1/2watt resistors between the switching and power wire, or would I need to go as far as installing an inductor to delay the signal like a spike? What is the voltage of the power wire? Do we know what the inductance of between the switching and power wire is? Do we know how much of a drop is produced by the coil?

Sorry it's so long, I hope you can understand my questions, thanks.

Understood, but I asked 2 questions here and I wanted Mr. Slicks input on the other question. I figured he'd probably see the coil question if I tagged it with the Megasquirt question. Thanks for your response in the General forumn though
