#1997, "AFR Targets"

Can anyone tell me what are good values for "AFR targets for VE table 1"? My VE table goes from 25-300kpa and my rpm's go from 500-8000. Its for the 8x8 table. I'm using a zeitronix wbo2 and I believe the switchpoint to be 2.5

Why does your KPA's go to 300? How high of boost do plan on tuning too? The reason I ask, is because if your using an 8X8 table and you have that much of a stretch of KPA's, you might have a hard time tuning. I would/can send you one of my msq.'s or just a vex but there 12X12. Maybe you can just look at them and get an idea.

Edit: Do you mean for the 8X8 AFR target table or the VE?

How your target AFR table looks will depend on what you are trying to do.

Mine looks like this:

The criteria for my table is
1. make solid power when boost pressure is added
2. rich enough so that the engine is safe from knock, especially above 150+ kPa
3. produce outstanding fuel economy during cruise
4. hold a stable AFR at idle

Thank you, that is exactly what I was looking for. I'll deff give that a try this weekend though. THANKS

EDIT: also, which of those bins does your car idle in? the lowest rpm value is 1000 does it still aplly the value closest to the idle rpm? like mine idles around 900.

Yeah, that 13.0:1 cell is idle. Anything outside the boundries of the table will be linked to the nearest cell... so 500 RPM's @ 40 kPa would still be 13.0:1.

When you are first tuning it... keep it simple. A good target AFR to hit in vacuum is around 14-15:1 at first. Once you have a big part of the table ironed out you can easily switch it to best fuel economy by tweaking those vacuum cells leaner. You need the best resolution when the engine is changing RPM's and kPa's the most, which is during spoolup and around peak torque, you may have noticed that 3500 column which makes life a lot easier when trying to hit that perfect AFR when you are trying to spool as fast as possible.

Is the target AFR table only on MS II and higher? I don't recall seeing that on my setup.

Why such a rich idle? just curious as to what reasons. I have mine idling well at 14.7

My engine just seems to idle better around 13.0:1. I find it hard to keep it stable at stoich for some reason.

Ah, are there any side effects of running that rich at idle? fouled plugs or anything? Mine does idle a bit smoother rich but its fine in the mid 14's. It does have a killer lope at 21afr lol...

Dont worry about the plugs getting fowled around 13:1... that only starts to becomes an issue if you are idling so rich there is black suit coming out of the tailpipe, if you are idling at like 10:1
