hi i just got an a 97 eclipse gs and i have no idea where to start if anyone could help me on waht should be done first. and what parts 2 buy and not 2 buy

Good call. I would go one step further and suggest hitting the www.2gnt.com/nuke/modules.php?name=Sections&op=listarticles&secid=19 section, in particular, hitting the Power Stages Intro to start, and working your way through them. Once you've read through all those articles (might take an hour, tops), you will have a good idea of where to go.

There's still some blanks to be filled with that section, but I think you'll agree it's a good start. Welcome to Team 2GNT.
