Thats kind of what hapened to me last year when I was heading up the ShootOut. My timing tensioner bracket broke though and my belt got all fucked up and slipped off.

I wish you probably another happy rebuild in your head emoji Hopefully the valves didnt hit, but I am sure they did.

Sorry to hear though man.

Actually the belt didn't come off. What happened was, I stated to smell smoke or more like plastic burning while heading down the interstate on Friday. I pull over and pop the hood and its filled with what looks like fur from an animal at first glance. It really looked like someone shaved a big dog and put all of the hair in my engine bay.

So I limp the car home and Don (wite96gs) and I tore it apart to find out that the pulley is sitting sideways. Don puts the wrench on it to take it off and it just breaks off with no force. So I literally JUST made it home!

So today Don and I are off to the junkyard to find a replacement bracket and reinstall the new timing belt. The car only has 730 miles on the new rebuild. I have no idea how this happened...its freakin insane.

I am just really lucky it didn't break while I was driving it....damn lucky!

Well my whole rebuild has been a long and trying road! I had so many complications with it its not even funny. I guess its scared me and I really don't get to excited about things like this anymore. Whats the point really. Just fix it and move on!

Update...I replaced the T-belt and now I have some sort of constant squealing coming from the PS pulley area. Its not the bearing...I just replaced that again during the T-belt install. I think the actual compressor might be going bad.

Today after work I am going to take off that belt and start that fun game we all like to play...PROCESS OF ELIMINATION!

Welcome to the club, Jeremy! It's pretty cool when you know that it doesn't matter what happens to the motor; you know you can fix just about anything that goes wrong, the hardest part is finding the motivation to actually bother with it. emoji

Definitely dodged a bullet today! emoji

Yes I did dodge a bullet...someone is watching over me thats all I can say.

And yes it is a good feeling knowing you can fix just about anything that breaks. I have to say I learned more building up my own motor and then having to take off the whole timing side 3 different times as well as the tranny side. Shoot before my whole rebuild started....I didn't even know what plati-gauge was...LOL!!!

This past weekend spent on replacing the timing belt was set aside for my MS&S install. I hope to have it installed before we head out Friday morning for the SO!

I am so pumped to finally meet everyone!

I wasn't so lucky...

I was in the middle of downshifting while going up a hill and mine snapped. Resulted in 16 bent valves and two pistons with valve reliefs.

Wow the DSM gods were with you. That bolt is a dealer-only item right? because it only comes with the whole bracket/pulley assembly, I think.

I've seen a few of those snap. I have a feeling I should replace it next time

edit: wow I love your car. wingless is the bestest

Yes you are correct, it only comes with the whole bracket/pulley assembly.

I was always told to never touch that bolt ever...but in the manual they have a torque spec of 30ftlbs. Anyways...your right the DSM Gods were with me...thats for sure.

The exact same thing happened to me after my swap, maybe 500 miles in...lol Mine went on the highway at 65 miles an hour tough. Same bolt was to blame. Bolt bends sending belt into cover, but it does not break until you touch it... Didn't harm a thing with the 2.2L though. I had to pay for a tow, but luckily not any internals.

I edited to the wiki!
