#99459, "Stock rings with JE Pistons???"

Is it possible to use stock mopar rings with JE Pistons? I broke one of my JE Rings and I dont want to wait to get a new set from them if I can just use Mopar rings.

I would say no. Typically forged pistons fit the cylinder differently than cast. I think the stock pistons fit to a tighter clearance, and I am not sure if the rings are even of the same size. Correct me if I am wrong.

I'd say it's better to wait and do what you know is right at this point. You don't want to put it all back together and realize you've still not fixed the problem - or have a different problem.

You fit the rings to the cylinder with a feeler gauge, so that part would be the same.

The question is, are the rings exactly the same measurments and angles? The ring grooves may be different sizes between stock & JE pistons. However, if you can use hastings rings on both stock & JE pistons (just an assumption), then you should be able to use stock rings on JE pistons.

The main difference is going to be compound and hardness of the rings. I believe the JE rings are made of a different material and probably seal better than stock rings. Stock rings are designed to work for a long period of time under normal conditions, while JE rings are designed for performance applications.

IMO, wait for the JE rings.
