okay. so i come home for lunch today, car is all hunky dory. go back from lunch, and suddenly there's what sounds like a huge exhaust leak. car still runs great for the most part, minus the sound! i need to know if the 97 plus eclipse has a secondary o2 sensor, and if so where it's placed at.
what i'm thinking right now is this: i bought a 95-99 header for the car. didn't install it or even see it out of the car. i'm thinking that it came with a bung for a secondary o2 sensor, and the plug for it rattled out. this happened to me back in my honduh days, and i think it could be the problem? but since i'm so new to 2gnt's, figured i'd ask and see what the deal was. thanks for prompt answers guys.

nope no secondary upstream o2. All you have is the upstream and downstream (after the cat). If your leak sounds like its in front of the cat to the front of the car then you prolly have an exhaust gasket burned out.

that happen often? here's what i have. obx or whatever 4-1 header. from there there's a custom 2.5 inch mandrel exhaust with a flange to bolt to the header. i was under the impression that that gasket was a lead or similar compression type ring. least that's the way it was on my honduh.
a little clarification... i popped the hood, and moved around to try to get a better idea of where the sound was coming from. it seems to be coming from the area behind the block. tried to look under the car, but it's low and i couldn't. i think i'll just take it to the muffler shop tomorrow afternoon.
oh, and the whole thing is like at most 3 months old.

well you have to remeber the gasket at the cat could be burned through causing it to leak. It doesnt have to be the gasket between the header halves. You could also have a leak at the flex section if that failed.

it did kinda maybe seem like it was coming from the flex section. i don't know exactly. it just went all at once though, that much i do know. thank you for the help.
