nvm, i got it, only took 6 hours, and me loosing the lock nut, oh well. i had to take both upper and lower mounting brackets off to even give it enough room, then i had to raise the engine up real high to give it enough room to get it through. putting it all back together was even worse. and the hardest part was that i was doing all that in a rock/gravel driveway in my beater, my back is so scratched and brusied, but at least its working i guess, it was sitting at 13.2

If I remember correctly you can actually just keep turning it and it will eventually slide out of the tight spot it sits in. I know that seems very vague but I'm sure someone can add in the specifics for me. It turned and pulled, turned, and pulled and right before I gave up it came right through the narrow space. Glad to hear you got it out but I'd recommed a creeper. emoji

the lower bracket needs to come off. In a real bind if you cant get the bracket off then dont forget you can remove the intake mainifold to get to it.

BTW: next time your parents of friends get new carpet, save a small 4'X4' piece. I have a gravel drive too and the carpet is a life saver if i am outside working.

Terry

ok wtf happened??? i was driving home today, doin about 60, when i noticed my steering wheel was really tight, so i looked at my SAFC and it said the voltage was 11.1 and the battery light was on, so im light damnit, now what...and i was close to home, so i hurried up, and of course hit a traffic light, but when i got to the light, the voltage went back up to 13.2. but the battery light stayed on. so i got home and checked the belt, and its tight, so what the hell happened? the voltage kept dropping while driving too, like at idle, it would go to 12.7ish, and driving goes back up to 13.2 or so

Check your 12v wire going to the alt. Make sure it's tight also make sure the belt is tight.

i already checked the belt, and its still tight, but the weird thing is, i took my gf home, and it was fine again, although the voltage is still low, the highest it will go up to is like 13.5v and at stop signs or lights, it still drops down into the 12's like always, and thats when the rpms start to drop low and sit at like 500-600, whats the problem now?

Sounds like it could be a number of problems....
-check plug and ground on back of alt.
-check batt. connections
-possible bad engine grounding
-too much load on charging system due to too many accesories/big amp
-voltage regulator starting to take a crap
anyway you get the point so start checking your electrical conns. and wires for shorts/bad conn. Also, I had to change my batt. like 3 times last year before I figured out that with all the extra stuff in my car that the stock alternator just couldn't keep up with my power demands AND charge the batt. I upgraded to a 110A from the stock 90A alt. and no further charging problems. Just food for thougt....good luck bro.

well i dont have anything in the car that would drain the battery like that, just stock system, and i have the ground from the alternator plus another ground coming from the negative terminal directly to the alternator itself. and the negative connector is relatively new too.

could it just be the battery? i mean when i had the last alternator put on, it was dead in a few days, and i jumped the car, and it was fine then, but after then, the voltage always kept dropping from time to time

Well that being the case I would start re-checking all of you charging system electrical connection, have your bat and alternator checked, and I dont remember the exact procedure but I know there are ways to test your voltage regulator with a multimeter. Do a search on here and see if you can find anything on VR testing.
