I have a 96 rs. I/H/E and UDP. Short of turbo/nitrous, where should I go next? Ive been doing research, and i've heard both good and bad things about bigger TBs and test pipe/cat removal. My fastest time is 16.1, and i've had these same mods for a while, I guess im just trying to figure out what to do now. Any help is appreciated.

All you are going to here from mostly everyone is the same thing:

Save your money and go turbo.

Why keep wasting money on n/a mods when you could save and actually turbo it ya know.

Someone on here has a write up for a DIY turbo kit for under $1000!

Thats me emoji That would be your best bet to see any kind of power gain out of your engine. Trust me, I did all the NA mods short of ripping the engine apart. Turbo is just pure sex compared to them.

Just confirmed with my mom that there will be no turboing anytime soon. She says, "there are other things you need to spend your money on." Even though I already pay for my cell phone, and she doesn't give me any money at all for school. Problem is the car is in her name, even though I payed for it, and if I do anything to it she doesn't want, she can take it at any time. I guess Ill just drive it like it is for the next 3 years until I can buy something else.

Thanks guys

WTF! Put on a turbo kit, and video tape your mom removing it, I would love to see it.

U probably pitched this idea to your mom incorrectly.

This is how the conversation went:
eclipse13 - Mom I wanna turbo my car.
mom - do what to the car?
eclipse13 - Put turbo in it so it can go really really fast, listne to the exaust and bov, so that I could race everyone form the traffic light, and so no one makes fun of me in school for driving a poser.
mom - there are better things you can spend your money on...

This is how it was suppose to go:
eclipse13 - Mom I wanna turbo my car.
mom - do what to the car?
eclipse13 - Put turbo in it to raise the thermodynamic efficiency of the engine, this way I will be saving money on gas compared to any non turboed engine of the same output.
mom - saving money is good... my little son is growing up and is becoming responsible... go right ahead and do what you want...

I know spark plugs are not a mod but the car runs so smooth now.

It wasn't as stupid as the first one, but my dad is a mechanic, so any bullshit I try to pull would be easily cleared up by him. Otherwise the 'turbo saving gas' would have worked and her suv would be supercharged by now.

My parents told me no turboing my car. The reason's were "you don't need any more power" and "I don't want you spending that kind of money on your 5 year old car". A year and a half later, I was turboed. emoji

Your dad is a mechanic... it is almost a crime not ot use his specialty tools for improovment of your personal vehicle.

If your dad owns a garage it is a crime not to use unlimited lift time to improve your vehicle.

My dad is the reason I am a car guy. He says as long as I can cover all my other expenses, I can do what I want. But you know what they say, "If mama ain't happy, aint nobody happy"

I guess if that is the case than there are other things you can do besides turbo. Too bad most of them will not add any power.

Here's a few tips that seem to be working for me. Do little mods to your car for now, don't expect any gains though. Hell, if you want the best bang for your buck, put some money into appearance mods (suspension is the biggie here),rims, tires, and maintenance. Make sure the engine and tranny and everything else are in tip top sape and keep it that way as best you can.

After you've re-done the suspension, replaced the brakes, done some fluid changes and all that fun stuff, your parents might be a tiny bit more open minded to you modding the engine.

I know my parents were very against it, and when I started working on the car in our tiny ass garage with my gramp's handtools, they kept pushing to get me to stop and take it to a shop (for brake pads for chrissakes). But once I finished the job for under 50 bucks (compared to the 200 the shop woulda charged), they were a lot happier. Then came the suspension, and after doig that I think my parents are pretty much open minded to whatever I want to do to my car as long as I don't blow up the engine. Which I won't as long as I keep studying and reading up on this website before I go turbo emoji

since your dad's a mechanic, just keep on him about it and how much you want to learn about the engine and modding and custom stuff... if you can make it a father/son project (tough cuz i know mechanics are usually busy and tired)...but just keep on it, don't be annoying but don't drop the idea all together.

Full Tokico Suspension - Shocks/Struts and Springs 1.5" drop

Few more exterior mods, then tuuuurbo.

I had a great time working on my car with my Dad. I certainly could not have done it without him and his garage. My mom was not at all for this (as I should be focusing on school, not my car, which is true, but hey), but she still accepted it for what it is. I even took her for a ride the other day, and she loved it! (although she kept thinking we were going to get pulled over emoji ) The difference is that I bought the car, pay for everything for it, including the insurance, so she basically has no say on it. However, I agree with the previous post in that you should start with the small stuff, and work up. Hell, if you research enough, get all the parts you need over a period of time, and know exactly what you will be doing (well as much as you can know without actually doing it), then there is no reason why you can't turbo your car over a weekend. (although during a project something ALWAYS goes wrong, so plan for the worst) You might even be able to do it without her knowing...(not that I would recommend going behind her back, but I know that when my mom looks under the hood she could not tell the difference from stock to what it is now) Anyways, sorry for the long post, and I hope you are able to do what you want with the car eventually. Just be patient, gain her trust, and try and have some fun in the meantime emoji
