you can use the whole motor from these vehicals
95 non-turbo eclipse, talon, dodge avenger, chrysler sebring (4 cyl only)
or just the shortblock from the neon
they are all the same

You should be able to pick up a neon motor for cheap. I'd take it to a machine shop though. Have all the specs checked; line-bore, cyl walls, etc. Have it cleaned, re-decked and if you got the cash toss some forged pistons and rods in there. Corbin's got a great write up on how to rebuild 420a's. It's a great, rewarding learning experience.

Any Neon DOHC bottom end will work fine.

You can use a Neon SOHC but a few things need to be considered. First off the SOHC had a lower compression than the DOHC. Also in earlier models the PCV was ported directly to the crankcase under the intake manifold; therefore, you will need to plug the ports when converting to a DOHC.

Obviously the heads will not work or the intake exhaust manifold. Oil pan may be different in case you threw a rod.
