I need a new intake because my current one is getting trashed. It came on the car and just won't bolt snug/sold. The filter is attracted to the ECU harness and eventually rubbed through it. That fried my ECU and cost me lots of money.

2nd, the intake has been rubbing into the battery post and its starting to wear into the intake itself. So, I will put something around it to protect it better with the new intake. The pic is horrible but it was raining out and I didn't want to go back out there for a re-shoot. lol




So I thought about getting a Long Ram to keep the filter away. However, I keep hearing about water and it kind of scares me. Does this actually happen? And what is this bypass valve I have read about? I heard you can get them at a local parts store.

Long Ram benefit/worth it more or should I stay short? Thanks guys!!

I went through nearly a foot of water with mine on and nothing happened, its a nice piece of security, but I still wouldn't want to have to go through that much water again even with it.

But I went turbo so I need it no longer and have just the bypass and pipe going to to the filter minus the filter b/c I'm using it left sitting in my room. If your interested PM me

Well, as it has been discussed hundreds if not more times, you will not suck in air thru your CAI unless it is COMPLETELY submerged under water. there has also been discusions about the bypass defeating the purpose of a CAI. I dont have a bypass but then again i live in So.Cal, just a couple miles from the border and it would be extremely hard around these parts for water to rise to such a level. altho i am still cautious and let off the throttle and put it in neutral even over a small puddle just to make sure.

I'm guessing you have no future plans to boost.
If you have the stock intake, put that back on with a K&N drop-in filter.

I'm running a $40 CAI from eBay with a K&N filter attached. Had some rubber hoses laying around and wrapped that around the battery tie-down to prevent the thing from rubbing through the intake piping. Apparently others have had issues with the mounts breaking on their eBay intakes, but I've lucked out so far. I've even gone to the extent of swapping out the rediculous couplers that came with it and ordered some black silicone couplers from OptionImports.

No serious HP, but it works & looks nice.

i have the AEM full cold air on my eclipse. it is a really good intake but the bad thing is yes it can suck up water. i don't have the bypass valve on mine (i didn't want to cut the solid intake. it was too pretty.) and i hit some deep water under a bridge, sure enough i was hydro locked with 24 hrs. i had to buy a whole new engine because my block got chewed up in cylinder #1. i'll put it this way, everyone has their own opion. i like the full set up. i would reccomend it, but if you live where it rains alot and their are deep puddles, don't drive if it is raining. other than that i always run mine.

yea, you musta been in a freak accident bro, it doesnt seem very likely for a couple of oz. of water to travel UP the about 1.5 meter of tubing even with the help of the vacuum, plus asi said i put it on neutral when i do drive over hazardous puddles, when not pressing the pedal the amount of vaccuum created by the IAT is negligible compared to the amount of force it would require a drop of water to travel up the CAI tubing.

Now i know, u have concrete proof that IT CAN happen, but the circumstances in which i am located make it very unlikely. I do appreciate you worring about us tho

Hell, ill back up thedawg. I know mine wasnt completely submerged and I hydrolocked also badly. Needed whole new engine. For peace of mind I would suggest getting one.
