I have a 99 eclipse GS auto and the tranny is slipping. It's not bad but it still bugs me. I have three choices that I can make and would like some suggestions as to what would be the best choice.
1. rebuild the tranny and keep it an auto. I have never worked on a tranny so i would either have to have some help or would just take it to a shop
2. swap it with a manual tranny. i know this requires quite a few parts but this is what i want to do. i want to get rid of my auto.
3. swap the engine and tranny with a 1G GS-T. I have been looking at this and it is tempting. I want to get a turbo on my car in the near future but i don't know if i should stick with the 420A or switch to the 4G63. I would just swap it out with the 2G 4G63 but i dont feel like dealing with the issues i've heard about them.
so, what would you guys suggest i do? thanks in advance

I think you should worry more about the issues of swapping a 4g63 into our cars then the issues with the 2g 4g63's. I would just cross off choice number 3 if I were you.
Now if you want a manual and your stock auto tranny is slipping and would need to be pulled anyway to rebuild it, I say just swap in a Manual. Would be well worth it in my opinion, but I am a little bias since I hate automatic transmissions

Dont listen to him bro... swap that shit, grab a 4g6 manual... that shit is pretty easy if you work hard enough at it. Make sure you take pics, you'll want them later. It's a fun process.

#3 sounds good. Should be able to get through it with a 6 pack on a weekend. I heard that you only really need a Phillips screwdriver, a 14mm wrench, and some duct tape.

Dude, you really can't/don't want to do that. The amount of money and time and energy swapping a 4g63 motor into your car is waaaay too much. These guys are yanking your chain. Before you go researching into this, know that you don't want to do it. Do a search on here and you'll find that I'm not just saying this to be a jerk, I'm actually helping you out.
In terms of your tranny, swap it out for a 5 speed, throw a turbo kit on it and you're good to go.

Or just sell your car and buy a GS-T! They can be had for cheap enough. Otherwise, if you like your car, then do the 5-speed swap. PLENTY of people have done it before. And again, don't even think of doing a 4g63 swap. Many have tried, all (I believe) ended with the person down a lot of money, and without a working car. In case you didn't know, they are compltely different engines, except for the fact they are both 2.0's. One is made by Chrysler (420A), one by Mitsubishi (4G63). There are a million different reasons NOT to do it, and really not one good reason to do it.

That's the point. Do research first, then ask questions and show that you tried to find the answer. I don't mean to sound like a dick, but this is what I do, as should everyone else.

Heh. The way I see it, if someone can't be bothered to do a shred of research on a subject that interests them, then the chances they're going to fuck up a perfectly good DSM and bitch about reliability later are greater. I think it's better they never learn anything.
At the same time, just because this site is a resource, doesn't mean that ownership of a DSM entitles anyone to shit. You need to show mutual respect and respect is always earned.
If a DSM owner stopped by your house, you might offer him a beer and talk shop for a bit. That would be cool, right? Now, suppose you invted that DSM owner in and, instead of your offering a beer, he said, "Give me a beer." This site, to me, is the same way. If I see someone who's thirsty, I'll offer him that beer, but if he expects that beer from me, he'll be told where the local bar is located.
It's all about raising the bar in the DSM community. Whiny bitches who don't put forth any effort leave, and dedicated DSMers who want to further the platform will stick around and the member base will become more responsible on average.
Just my idealistic rant for this wonderful Friday morning.

there was no point to start whinning and shouting back and forth for no apparent reason. I may have had my eclipse for a little over 3 years but i dont have the money nor the time to spend it all on the car. i try to put as much time as i can to it but i do realize that there are still a lot of things that i do not know. instead of just jumping into something, the best way to learn is through people who have done that specific work to their car or whatever else you're trying to do.
there was a main reason why i did not research and wanted others opinions. I am not starting this work until about the end of summer beginning of fall because i have a 2 month trip to Poland and most of my money is going to pay for that. if I figure out what would be the best to do now, that gives a good 4 or so months to gather up all of the parts, information, and research until i feel comfortable enough to start the work.

Swap in a 5 spd. Since you will be taking the auto out, you will be 1/4 done IMO.
Its not that hard at all. Its all pretty much bolt on. The only thing that isnt is the wires ( some splices) and the hole for the master cylinder ( but is already half cut and CLEARLY marked for you).
