My fuel pump will not work unless I run it direct. Does anyone know what this could be?

Run direct as in touch a 12V+?? You may have a bad relay. I would check that first. You can also check for continuity if the relay is not your problem.

Where is the relay located on a 96 eclipse. I looked in the haynes book it shows that it is on the firewall by the washerfluid but I looked and wasnt sure if it was there.

I am trying to remember, I think there should be a relay on the firewall. It is a little black box. Check the fuse/relay box under the hood too. Look for Fuel/ASD Relay I believe.

nope, sorry.... the fuel pump relay sits between the clutch master cylinder resivior and the brake master cylinder resivior in that pic. Some cars have two relays, some have four. all the relays are keyed on the bottom, so you cant interchange them... On cars with 4 relays, the fuel pump relay is the one farthest to the left, if you're standing in front of the car.

Your best bet is to get this part from the chrysler dealership. The part number is 04687567, and make sure they run a "bin check" to actually make sure they have it in stock. They run about $13. Mitsu wants $71.... This happened to me 2 weeks ago for the second time, leaving my car stranded at a gas station. I now keep a spare in the glove box.

Thank you so much I have had this problem since I bought the car last year. I've been waiting on my boyfriend to figure out this problem but he doesnt know anything about Mitsubishi. Maybe now I can get it fixed myself.

Ya you are right, that damn pic is so big I should of made it smaller. I thought I was circling the relays, but got that damn resistor thing instead. Sorry.
