#97161, "High Flow Cat? Just A Few Questions"

So I am looking for a new cat because the stock one I think is on its way out. I want to know if the CEL goes on if you have a high flow cat? Also looking for any kind of review on the obx 2.5" cat which is supposed to be a direct bolt on. Thanks

I had one on my civic and it didn't cause a CEL. I definately felt a difference after I installed it. The tires would peel without even pressing the gas hard. (My civic is an automatic emoji) The only thing you might wanna consider before putting on one of these ebay cat's which are basically straight pipes, is that if you get pulled over and the cops notice it you can get a $5,000 fine in Jersey. That's why I took mine off after a few months.

I am not sure about a $5k fine that sounds a little farfetched. A test pipe yes I can understand but there are many other cars that are 10x more obnoxious than how this would sound. But as for now I am in Florida and need to replace the cat quick because the lack of pressure in the exhaust I think is causing the car to idle low and stall sometimes. Also having a problem coasting at 2k it likes to hop up and down 100rpm

If those are the ones I've seen, it's nothing but a straight through resonator, no catalyst.

Any recommendations on high flow cats? I should probably call up a local exhaust shop. Any idea on how much something like this normally costs?

Do a search on Catco high flow cats. They are street legal and offer some performance gains. They usually go for about $100 to $150.

I guess in Florida the laws for not having a legal cat are different. Here in Jersey they consider that a big thing. I know of a service station near my house that lost their inspection license and got fined thousands of dollars for passing someone without a cat. Also there is a huge change in sound when you put one of those ebay cats because they don't have any chambers inside. That's why I said they are basically straight pipes. Your car will sound loud as hell. Trust me.

I have one for the eclipse NT stock. Never installed if you want it you can have it for shipping, I wont be using it. The reason I didnt use it was because when I ordered it I didnt look at my exhaust and my stock bolts are gone for my cat. Since I have cat-back and didnt kno it. This is a direct bolt up with 2 metal gaskets along with screws/nuts.

Thanks, Brandon

I just purchased a 2.5 testpipe for 30$ off ebay, and will be doing the resistor mod to avoid a CEL.

I don't see why your cel light would come on. Did you mess with your 02 sensor at all when installing your high flow cat?
