#97134, "Pushed Car In Reverse While In 2nd Gear"

So I went to go pick the car up from the exhaust shop after having my downpipe made. I had to push the car in reverse for the tow truck guy to be able to pick it up. I looked at the emergency brake and it was down so we started to push it a few feet and then the tow truck guy said "wait is the car in gear?" Sure enough the car was in 2nd gear. Could this have damaged anything pushing the car in reverse while it was in 2nd gear? We only pushed it a few feet until he noticed. I never leave the car in gear, the exhaust shop must have when they brough the car out of the garage. Thoughts??

Nope. It'll be fine. What happened was when you were turning the wheels and the car was in gear, it meant that you were also turning the motor over along with it. (Probably made it a bit harder to push emoji). As long as your timing belt and all that was in place (which I'm assuming it was) then it would keep everything in time.

No biggie.

Yea the only thing is i was pushing the car in REVERSE. So i was at the front of the car pushing from the front bumper and the car was in 2nd gear. I know it would be fine if the car was in reverse. I was just wondering if i did any damage because it was in 2nd gear.

I'm sorry I didn't make my response clearer. When you pushed the car in reverse with the car in a forward gear you turned the motor over opposite of the direction it normally goes. As long as your timing belt was on, it'll keep everything in line. It's not a problem, and you didn't mess anything up.

Hope this helps,

Brian
