Ok I know this isnt a problem for an eclipse, but it's still mitsubishi and my mom is freakin out... She has a 94 Diamante, 3.0 sohc, the front valve cover where the oil filler cap is is leaking. I took it off, and checked it, it seemed to be fine, I put the cap on and turned it upside down and put water in it and it leaked... so I assumed bad valve cover.. So I ordered one from Gary at mitsugraveyard, and same thing happens... replaced the cap 2 times. the pvc valve was replaced a year ago, I checked it today and it had no vaccuum.. so I replaced it and the hose, and now it has alot of vaccuum, however the oil leak is still there, it drips down the front of the valve cover definately 100% positive from the oil filler cap.... any ideas? please dont delete or lock, my moms a mitsubishi gal and she used to have a 2gnt. So please help. Valve cover gasket has been replaced, today. thanks

instead of a gasket on the valve cover try some rtv and let it cure for 12 hours....it wont leak for nuthin then....lol

its not leaking from the valve cover gasket, its from the actual cap where you put the oil.... I'm so confused on what else it could be... that's why its so important

well then if you replaced the cap, and your absolutly sure its coming from ther id replace the valve cover, maybe you crosstheaded the cap or sumthin beonde godlyness and the oil is oozing between the threads, or maybe you could even try to clean the area real good and use some teflon tape on the cap were the cap meets the vc so that it kinda gets sandwiched between the vc and the cap, you dont want to use the tape on the threads tho cause you dont want to rish gettignthe shit in the engine

yeah I replaced the valvecover, oil cap 2 times, and valve cover gasket 2 times, pvc valve 2 times, it has strong vaccuum now, and it is still leaking from there. I'm lost

Some motors come with a gasket around the cap. Is it there if the motor has one? It sounds ghetto, but try duct tape to seal the opening and start the engine. A filler cap leaking is hardly common on any vehicle unless you are building that much positive crankcase pressure to be pushing oil past the cap. Is the pcv facing the right way? A valve cover just oil from spraying everywhere, there should not be any real reason for it to be leaking, unless the oil is filled to the top... of the motor that is.

PCV is a one way valve. If it is facing the wrong way then the pressure that is supposed to recirc gets trapped. I think just like you said, he lost the little gasket.

well this type of pvc valve can only go on one way its threaded into the manifold.. so I know its on right.. there is no such gasket on this valve cover, and I'm pretty sure it is a bigger problem b/c it does it w/ the old valve cover and the new one I just installed... I am definate its coming from the oil filler cap, I've cleaned it several times and you can even see it running from there... and there is the exact amount of oil in the car (well less now, b/c of the leak) so its not overfilled.... and the oem cap leaks and the 2 new ones I've bought from autozone.. even w/ pushing the two tanges in more to make it tighter still makes it leak.

Have you ever ran a motor with no valve cover? There is very little oil that comes from the valve train. The cover just deflects the oil back into the head so it can eventually make its way back to the pan. There is only enough pressure to keep the valve train lubed. This is why you see a bunch of turboed 2gnt's and high comp motors run catch cans. The pressure in the crankcase actually pushes oil out the top of cover. Is there a hose to the air intake? Is it clogged? If it isn't a gasket around the cap or the valve cover, then you should start testing other parts or take it to someone who can figure it out.

yes there is a hose that goes from the air intake. I'll check it tomorrow and see if it is clogged.. there is definately not a gasket that goes around the oil filler cap. there is one around the valvecover itself (valvecover gasket) but its fine and I replaced it yesterday. Is there anything I can run through the oil holes that would unclog something? Since you said the pressure of the crankcase, I'm thinkin maybe some of the holes in the block may be clogged which is making all the pressure come out of one or a few holes. thanks
