Ok, here's the deal. I'm not really knowledgable about cars (I'm a computer guy), but I'm learning about things as they arise. So bare with me as I'm always learning new shit! I've been using this website for years and it's a wonderful resource and the people are great so I'm hoping I can get some ideas about what might be causing my problem.
So just starting yesterday, my engine has been dying while I'm driving it. It has happened pretty much at random times. It has happened with the clutch pushed in (in neutral and in gear), in third gear (while driving), and while transitioning from 1st to 2nd (and many other times). If I'm stopped at a light or something (I'm usually not paying attention) but I think it will idle for a second or two at about 800-1000 rpms and then die. But how 'bout when I'm driving in 3rd gear and all of a sudden I can't accelerate anymore (radio and electronics don't skip a beat) and start slowing down. Once I get around 20mph, I can push in the clutch and the engine dies. I have always been able to start it right back up again with little problems.
I have talked to some people and they have said maybe a fuel problem. I just replaced my fuel filter about a month ago and I used fuel injector cleaner not too long ago too. Another person mentioned it might be a bad tank of gas? This did start about a day or two after I filled up. I used 87 octane from a Mobile station that I have gone to in the past with no problems. Anyway, any diagnostic ideas would be great. Thanks for the help
EDIT: The car is a 1998 GS w/ CAI and Greddy cat-back

If its an Orange Light Of Death, then my car has been dead for six years.
Try a known good ECU if nothing else, inspect the crank angle sensor for loose connections / dirt in the connector / frayed harness, same with the cam angle sensor.

Sounds easy enough. Could someone possibly give a mini how-to? Maybe with some pictures on where these things are located? Remember, I'm learning as I'm going along so I appreciate the help as I try to follow.

Our ECUs are located in the engine bay.
Remove the bolt that secures the connector into the ECU and unplug it. Then you'll need some wrenches and/or sockets to remove the ECU out of the bracket.
