what can cause this? my coil has a crack running horizontally all the way across between the bottom two plug wire posts. could it have been overtightened when i reinstalled the bolts, or could an electrical problem cause the plastic to crack? i'm getting CEL 43 (cylinder misfire), and this is the second time that i have had a cracked coil...it happened a few years ago as well. obviously i can't drive the car now, but i dont want to replace the coil and have this happen again until i can be sure of how to fix it? i can't believe no one else has ever posted about this.

Yes, that coil will work. I have had one on my car for about 2 years and not had any problems with it. The only thing with it is, it was made for a neon so it mounts backwards on our car and you can't see the MSD label. I bought mine from Summit. As for the cracks, like Dino said don't tighten the bolts so much. Just snug them down.

I have a 98 and i have that coil and it faces the front its not backwards! Got it from Jegs. had it for a year. theres 2 diffrent terminals shaps. you just need to know the one for your car.

thanks for the help...good to know it isnt an electrical problem causing the crack...but overtightening the bolts to the tune of $90 kinda sucks. did you guys with the MSD have to extend the wires for the coil to reach around the left side? i suppose since its plastic i could just redrill is so that it mounts frontwards... i will probably use some rubber washers this time. it's weird though because i just changed the plugs as well, and used some new BKR7E11s gapped at .30-.34 (cant really tell precisely) instead of the old ones i had at default gap (.4 i think). i immediately assumed it was the new gapping that was causing the misfire until i saw the crater in the coil.

btw, does anyone (online store) offer a warranty on that MSD coil that is better than other places? there are no local shops here that carry it anyway.

so, with the coil mounted backwards, wouldn't you have to connect the plug wires to the wrong posts on the coil? the cylinder 1 plug wire wont reach all the way around to the bottom right corner of the coil...so just connect the wires to the wrong posts?
