Ive been hearing this knocking sound.i'll try to give you guys the best description i can. it comes from the passenger side. the sound isnt consistent meaning that it will stop for maybe a second or two at a time every now and then.it actually seems to go away if i rev my car to like 1500-2krpms and hold it there. my car doesnt idle funny, it runs good, no oil leaks or burning oil. ive never seen any metal shavings in the oil after changing it (although it would just be a guess as to what it looks like). any ideas as to how i go about finding out what in the hell this is? My car is a 97rs A/T with about 105k miles. TIA

This could be a long shot, but based on what just happened to my sister's car, alternator. Hers was making a strange knocking/banging sound and then siezed.

Don't take my word on it just yet, I'd see what others think first, just keep this in mind as a posibility. It might be something completely different, I have no idea because I can't hear what sound you are refering to.

Pop the hood and listen while it's running to locate the sound better.
Does the knocking sound increase when you increase the rpms of the engine?

all i can tell is that its from the pass. side of the engine. its almost too quiet to tell when just pulling on the throttle cable with all the other noise. it def. doesnt get louder when the rpms go up.

Could be a bunch of things. The first thing that came to mind was the crankshaft damper pulley. They make funny noises when they're loose.
