ok ive had this car for, well its going to be a year in december 13, 2005. its giving me some minor problems, but this one i have ignored for a while.

seems that one of the previous owners welded a pipe thats coming out of the "down" pipe is it? its the "L" shaped piece right after the exhaust manifold. well there is another L shaped pipe about 1 inch in diameter that is welded to it and it comes back up and ends right next to the shield on the header, also next to the EGR actuator (UFO looking thing) would any one tell me what this "person" whoever it was was planing when he did this? whats the purpose, and would it hurt performance. i can buy this piece from a local eclipse yard. thank so much in advance peeps! HERES A QUICK SKETCH I DID (THE RED COLORED THING IS WHHAT IM TRYING TO DESCRIBE)

I've got the little elbow on there too. It came that way from the factory to send heated exhaust gases back to the intake. (I think)

I also believe it was a recall or TSB, so having it not hooked up to your intake is fine as long as it's capped.

edit: hmm 29 bucks for a report? well all i need to kno is that is works, its my 1st car, i love it, i take care of it, what more report do you need?! now excuse me but im putting those 29 dllrs into something usefull! Now really it doesnt matter aslong as its capped? cool, its a 95 so god only nows what kinda weird shit mitsu experimented with on my car.

no...its not just a CA thing...its a 1995 thing. its called "pulsed secondry injection" and it was only on the 95's and was a recalled item. no other newer eclipse...CA or otherwise...had this. you can take it to the dealer and have it removed...and they will also need to reflash your ECU and it all should be totally free.

so no, it was no hack job by any other owner.

Really? ok well my bad then. I thought it was just a CA thing cuz my V2 when i was installing it said something about california cars and there was a hole in the intake where if u had this thing is where that goes but o well dude got his question answered so no harm done

if your CEL is off and the pipe is capped they already performed the recall.

Wow, this was news to me. I just Sawed mine off and welded it shut when I was welding my J pipe to the stock exhaust DP so there was no exhaust leak. It didnt seem like anything useful and it was capped off already.

yup your car had the recall done. mine came like that too. the shitty thing is i've still got the CEL. if they reflash the ECU properly there shoud be no CEL. otherwise you get a code for the pulsed secondary air system not working problem (b/c it's been removed). i tired going to the dealer but they won't touch it without doing a $100 diagnostic test even though i've told them exactly what's wrong.

Would the pulsed secondary air system make your car run like crap if you dont have it and have a CEL??
