#95012, "Boost on stock fuel system"

Ive been reading and from what ive read ppl are running like 5 lbs on the stock fuel system? Is that right? Stock pump/ injectors no fpr noting? If thats right i will bolt my stuff up in the next week and run 5 lbs till i can get the rest. I have a built bottom end so i will be running 15-20 lbs eventually, but id like some boost in the mean time. The accuator i got is the 10lb one, so im thinking of just getting an MBC (manual boost controller, <- for the new members, like myslef who dont understand all the terms) and tune it down to 5 and id be set. Also at 5lbs i dont need an intercooler so all i would need is a bov and piping. LET ME KNOW, lol, im about to take the wastegate arm off the flapper and run like 2lbs, i want BOOST!!!

Okay, couple things. It's really not suggested that you run ANY boost with the stock fuel system. Even 5 psi. People will run with stock injectors sure, but they've upgraded the fuel pump and have a FPR installed to up the fuel pressure under boost.

What are you using to add extra fuel under boost? From what it sounds like, nothing! That's a really really really really really bad idea. You will go lean when you get into boost, detonate and bad things happen.

What are you using to control the MAP sensor? If nothing, (unless you're a 95) your car won't let you run boost since it'll pull fuel if it sees it.

You say you have a MBC. The problem is, you can only tune UP with an MBC, like going from 10lbs to 15lbs. You can't tune down. The lowest you can go is determined by your wastegate not the MBC.

Lastly, you don't need an I/C at 5 psi, but if you're planning on running 15 or whatever, you absolutely need it.

Point: Wait until the car is properly set up before running boost. You're not quite there, and it'll be worth it when you are. If you jump into boost too early without taking proper precautions, you WILL destroy a something, possibly your built bottom end and have to start over. That would suck.

Yea forcefed is right on. You could always do the actuator mod to lower your boost http://www.denverspeed.com/wastegates.html. But you will need something to raise the fuel pressure in boost, like a fmu or better yet, a sfmu. Also go with the walbro 255 pump. The stock one wont be enough to provide enough fuel in boost. Injectors will be fine for low boost but thats it. You might as well do it all right the first time, like get a fmic if you plan on going up to 15 lbs of boost, you will need it.

a brand new fuel pump (walbro) and fmu (vortech) can both be purchased for under 150 dollars on ebay and installed in less than 2 hours correctly, why would this be holding you up? also in my opinion you need an intercooler no matter what your boost levels a are, yes it is true that its most efficient with higher boost levels, but your alot safer at 5psi intercooled than you are at 5psi non intercooled, its just the facts. like what was said b4 if your gonna do it do it right. and i might be wrong but this post should be moved to the turbo section. as it deals with boost

and for what its worth, he have a nice little section on here we affectionatly like to call the "TURBO/NITROUS TECH" forum. it has a more than a few nuggets of knowledge that may be of interest. the reason its there is so that posts like this about turbo stuff can go into a central place so that one may later search for their answers and find what they are looking for...

thank you to the guys who have answered this question, but you should refer the origonal poster to the appropriate section...because all his answers are already there.

You know what, I'm currently preparing to build a custom kit and I plan to summarize all the theory I read on this site so that it saves other BANME!s like me time and money. If I do it right it might even go on the tech page emoji

I really want it hooked up! lol, and there is no saying how long it will be before i can get injectors put in/ get a safc2 and an fmic. If i take the wastegate arm off the flapper that would mean id be running like a 2lbs, rite? Ill get the walbro 255 and the fmu for now, untill i can get the rest of the parts. The thing is that with 8.0:1 wiseco pistons thats a bit of power lost there that i want back,,

How much power do you think your gonna lose emoji 8 HP or something? emoji emoji Also if your WG arm is off it shouldn't boost at all.

I have nothing else good to add to this thread so I'm just gonna leave.

this post scares me. maybe it is just the way you said it. but it sounds like your final fuel system is going to be safc 2, bigger injectors, and a 255 fuel pump. if this is what your thinking you are going to mess up that beautiful built motor you have. you can only use bigger injectors with a adjustable fpr. be it a sfmu or afpr. hold on a min i will search for you and get you a link...............
http://www.2gnt.com/nuke/modules.php?name=Sections&op=listarticles&secid=23 read all those topics!!!! then you will understand what i am talking about.

How does this sound for boosting at 10lbs?

walbro 255
12:1 fmu
30 lb injectors

should i go with the 12:1 or the 10:1, i hear the 12:1 run really rich and as i have a built bottom end i can afford to run a little leaner, what cha think? By the way thanks for all the good advice.

going to break it down for ya a little more. if you are going to use bigger injectors you will have to use a sfmu. the stock injectors are good to about 8-10 psi with a fmu. so for 10 psi i would use walbro 255, sfmu and bigger injectors. now since your motor is built why not get 440ish injectors and run 15 psi. so as a review:

255+stock injectors+fmu= no more then 10psi

255+bigger injectors+sfmu= 15 psi some people have ran 20 with 450's

yes it will work. you will still need bigger injectors if you want to run 10+ psi. people run 10psi with a 12:1 fuel to air set up.(weather it be sfmu w/big disk or a 12:1 fmu) i would not do this. to me it is like pushing something that does not need to be pushed.

This really needs to go in the turbo section, im suprised it hasent been moved yet, hahn sells a 6-9lb actuator for the 16g its actually a 10lb actuator imo but it will work fine for what you are needing. if your intercooled. i have the walbro, fmu 12:1 and the hahn set up with 10lb actuator with no issues due to fuel cut, in fact im richer than id like to be at times.
