#94441, "a way around emissions"

i live in hagerstown, MD and just like everyone else the damn check engine light likes to continously make its presense known. well it finally went off the other day so today i took my car for emissions. went i got there the guy said that it sits too low to run on their test machine so i got a two-year extension and didn't have to pay a dime. so now i don't have to have emissions done until 11/28/07 all because my car is lowered. so if you live around here and you known it's not gonna pass just lower it a couple inches

I used to live in hagerstown! But now i live in northern VA, but im going to school in southern VA, so I have my own way around emissions. Only Northern VA has required emissions tests, sooooooo I'm gonna register my car here for the next 4+ years and bam no more emissions!

Guys, lets at least try to stay on topic. Many good, comical points were edited by myself, I think everyone gets the idea though. Sending others ignorant Emails is no way to build a reputation on a forum either. This site has seen a lot of BS through the years and many of the deep root members have managed to identify these half ass contraptions and protect other members.

2GNT's have always had it rough with the turbo guys, half assed kits only make things harder as an overall image, makes us look like cheap idiots that just throw together something you call a project. This really makes some of us blend in with some of the honda guys.

Trying to stand up and argue for a product that is not yours is not exactly a wise choice since you cannot back the products performance. Commenting on it is one thing but arguing its usefulness or bargain is just a pissing match and sets you up for black eye if the product is indeed a lemon.

With that being said lets just try to stay on topic so Dino doesnt come lock this thread. I personally like to edit them so that the info remains on the site, i am sure many of you can agree with that.

Terry

We don't have emissions here, thank God. If we did, none of our vehicles would pass, they all have so many problems.

We apparently did have them a long time ago, but they never did anything. I went up there with my mom when I was 4 or so, and we just pulled in, and they handed us a sticker, and told us to go pay the guy, then we went home.

Emissions can be pretty tricky for those who have to endure it... (In Ohio we are a segregated state and some don't have the tests)However in the Cleveland area they caught on to lowered vehicles and now do testing by performing a tialpipe sniffer test in "static" form. The car gets driven past the rollers and the technician follows a predetermined rev-range for each vehicle to calculate the emmisions. When I had to go through emissions after turboing the car with 440 injectors, it actually flew through with a quick pass. So I have to question how accurate the test really was. The following year I was able to finagle a permanent exemption so it is no longer a concern in my case. However typically a bolt on turbo kit, if tuned properly, will still pass the tests as long as a cat is retained and functional. (with the exception of CA because of CARB requirements.)

well, im running vortech fmu 12:1 so do u suggest i tune because im only running 5 psi. Obviously im rich and i dont have anything to tune with. also would turning down the boost to like 1 psi before the test make much of a difference?
thanks

Passing emission can be easy because of this: In CT, the don't rev the car enough to even bring it into boost

I went to emissions with my boost turned up to 20psi and with my Cat barely hanging on and no rear O2 sensor. In CT, with OBD2, they only watch the info coming from my OBD2 port.

And all the readings coming from there are exactly what I want them to be (thanks to the resistor mod).

welll...does it matter if hit boost while they run the thing on dyno?...i mean i was already thinking of turning the thing down to 1-2psi before i go but i dont think it will make a difference. But if it does im f**ked cause i have a t3 and that shit spools up instantly

you're running an fmu, therefore running no boost means the car would run like stock since it's boost dependent and still used in conjuction with the stock fpr...do they do visual?

hmm....check what visually?..i mean they open the hood and put the ob2 scanner on while they run the thing on the dyno and stick the shit in the tailpipe. so they gonna see i have installed a turbo.

Just curious with this one. I live in NY and am going to be boosted after winter. So If I take the gate arm off, that means all the exhaust will just go straight to the downpipe instead of spooling the turbine wheel? Ah-ha! So even if I have the 450cc injectors and the fmu and all that good stuff, they wouldn't pick up on that because since there is no boost, this stuff should run like stock? Just tryin to clarify here.

Well using an fmu, it only raises the fuel pressure when it sees boost...BUT using the 450's will make you run richer than stock, even without boosting

xcuse my relatively off topic question, but can any one in CA, confirm what i think i read in the DMV manual? "Cars 10 years and older do not have to have emission tests"? if so im out in the clear cuz i have a 95!! if not im still good, last time i did it they just got my info, vin# and mileage and i was done!
