so im driving along this morning just sort of cruisin...acutally speeding but not too bad, and i push in on the clutch to come to a stop and I feel a pop! OH SIT! car got stuck in neutral and i was there for 1/2 an hour waiting for a tow truck, so i go to school and get home and find out i have to replace a clutch and flywheel for $2000 friggin dollars!!!!! I am so mad...are they really overcharging me? My dad doesnt want to do it cause he never works on front wheel drive cars. I found a clutch and flywheel set on the internet for $454. is that good? Also how hard is it to really replace a clutch and or flywheel. GOD IM PISSED! TIA!

depends on where you live city mechanics charge higher labor than mechanics out my way. 454 is alot for a clutch you can get the ACT clutches for cheaper and they're awsome. the oem cluthc is way to expensive. ask them if they can turn the flywheel and resurface it that should save you money. i dunno what else is wrong with the clutch if you need a whole new assembly than you cold be lookin at bucks but it depends my dad can get clutches for our cars for 180 but that's his price. FWD cars usually aren't any worse than RWD cars. what i would do is get an aftermarket clutch and see what it comes with and if you need an extra peice e.g. throughout bearing than goto a mechanic to get you just that peice. 2g's is a hell of alot of money. shop around. shit for that money you could have a whole new trannie.

thanks beefgg for the sig

Man that really sucks. Sorry to hear that. Was you costing to a stop with the clutch in? If you were, that isn't good on the clutch and if you do it alot it builds up. As for knowing how much a new clutch and flywheel cost, I couldn't tell you. Don't pay 2000 for it though. That seems way out of the ball park for it.

i wasnt coastin far but i have only been driving this car by myself for a week so i dont think my driving in a weeks time would do that to the clutch. but the one im looking at is the centerforce clutch and it comes with the flywheel. I am just going to tell the mechanics i will do it myself. i am just going to get a tow truck to bring it home and i will get help from u guys as i need it. ANYONE IN KANSAS CITY KNOW HOW TO INSTALL A CLUTCH THAT COULD COME BY AND GIVE ME SOME HELP? Thanx. There goes my turbo fund!!!!!!

$2000 is entirely too much for a clutch job. You're not just getting screwed, you're getting bent over with no lube.

ACT doesn't make clutches for the 2GNT. Centerforce is nice, but there's better out there.

I paid $900 for a new modular clutch and install, and from what i hear, I got bent over.

Trust me, unless u have a mechanic budy who knows what there doing, don't just dive into replacing your clutch. It requires pulling the engine and the trani. NO SMALL PROJECT. I got a clutchmaster clutch non-modular for 450 $$, it feels like stock when u drive, untill you need the grip, and does it grip. I got my shop to do it with the engine swap, he only charged me 300 $ for all his labor, he's become a REAL good friend. I figure 1 grand is reasonable unless u know someone, and 700 is just that much better.

I found a friend to do it for $500 now! but i found out what the problem was. Somehow a spring got loose in my tranny and just started bouncing around and my entire clutch just completely exploded. the mechanic was pulling pieces of it out. also there was some fluid in the clutch housing so im really scared about that!
