#93854, "CryO2, anyone have ACTUAL results?"

I saw this CryO2 product, made by DEI in the new Summit catalog, as well as a few various others (JCW, etc.) and I've seen ads for it in IT, and SCC. I've Googled it, and searched a few forums (including this one), but people have never posted dyno sheets, or listed actual results. For those that aren't familiar with the product there's a link to it < a . href="http://www.cryo2.com/products.asp?m=sc&cid=1">CryO2</a>

You have to buy the tank and installation kit, and then buy whichever accessory you want to use, you can also use more than one at the same time. There's a intake piece that you put on your intake, and there's a bulb in the center of it that fills with Co2 and lowers the intake air a claimed 35%. There's also the fuel block, that freezes the fuel to a claimed -80º.

I was just curious as to whether or not anyone has used one of these and dyno'd it.

-Chris

P.S. DEI claims they gained 52hp on a hatchback civic, but that sounds a little farfetched.

WRONG... Nitrous Express claimed that on their N-tercooler system, which is a direct competitor to DEI's CryO2 system.
Dave Buschur was experimenting with the DEI system, so you may be able to get some info from him, or go ask on NABR.

"Nitrous Express has a similar system called the N-tercooler. This system comes only as an intercooler sprayer that’s able to spray either CO2 or NO2. NX claims that the system added an additional 52 horsepower to a turbocharged Honda engine during a dyno run. Likely story. D.E.I. makes no such claims about increased horsepower."

Here's a thread on NABR about it.
http://www.teamnabr.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=9;t=000648#000013

"We tested a DEI Cryo IC sprayer and Intake charge cooler on my galant and both pieces made ZERO hp on the dyno. NONE."

"there is an untapped market of idiots out there.
As the saying goes, there's a fool born everyday. In the end, those fools equate to what businesses call a "market". "

Here's a fun pic:

How the hell did nitrous express get 52hp out of a civic with the ntercooler sprayer? That is almost a miracle, I think.

The way i always took this kit is that the cryo kit allowed you to lower your intake temp and therfor lower your egt's and run higher boost without higher octane. Now granted you may only be able to run 5 more psi but 5psi is 5 psi.

That was just my understanding and could be wrong.

No i dont have one so no test results

Terry

FYI, Buschur has the name on his car but he does not use the stuff. It's more of a "marketing" thing.

It doesn't work.

Hmmm....all compressed gases will cool when released (Joule-Thomson effect) but CO2 doesn't carry as much Oxygen as NO2 so why use the inferior compound? The cooling effect of Nitrous isn't the main part of it's kick, it's the oxygen "efficiency". So why go through the trouble of installation and then put the wrong bottle on?

Peeps needs to consult they local scyen-tist befo dey go bout playin frankenstein an sheet.

*EDIT* I did some research and found that not only will the NO2 carry more oxygen, but may even provide more cooling power. If anyone is a chemist/chem major, all we need is the following to prove this:

"Standard enthalpy for change of formation from liquid to gas" for NO2 and CO2. NO2 seems to have a high figure and I have a hunch it is a lot higher than CO2. If anyone has access to this information get back to me.......
