I got to talking with some friends about my being broke and needing to put HG in my car. Anyway, does anybody have serious measurements of a 4g63 piston? My friend brought a drunken, but insightful idea that we usually use in the muscle car world. Swapping pistons and rods from other cars. I have taken many engine and advanced engine building classes and piston profiles are very subtle but very important. If hypothetically a .020 4g piston shared the same type of characteristics that our piston does, we would have to alter the rod to fit the piston. Seeing that they are probably dished and have a decently low compression, I feel that piston/valve clearance should not be a problem... but then again this could all be bullshit.

My thoughts are that I usually see arias ,JE, and a number of other companies offer 0.020 pistons for much less (used anyway) for the 4g63 platform. So far I can not find how much, if any, the wrist pin offset is for the 4g63 pistons. If anything, Silvo-lite by KB makes off the shelf pistons that come oversized for a very reasonabe price local usually that should meet or exceed the abuse the stockers handle. Just a thought.

Why not try an undersized Chevy smallblock piston while you're at it? You can buy *8* of those for the price of *4* of ours!! WOW!
Consider the wrist pin diameter, wrist pin location, piston deck to wristpin distance, piston height, combustion chamber volume differences, dish volume... then consider they're two completely different pistons for two completely different engines, assume the appropriate amount of shame for making me explain this, and go buy a 420A piston.
I'm just being mean. You know as well as i do how different all these pistons are from one another. It just won't work, dude.

Hey it sounded good at the time of a case of beer. The first thing I was actually considering was the wrist pin. I know, like you mentioned, the pin is the first thing to be considered when actually swapping a piston to a different rod. If it carried an offset of the same 1mm that we do, some of the other considerations would come next. A generic dish style piston is pretty ancient design, but the wrist pin location to the top of the piston would definately be next. Seeing that I'd already would have to make up 3mm of stroke, the piston probably wouldn't be tall enough anyway unless I wanted a 6:1 CR. Fuck it. Thanks though.

Strange enough, but I saw a twin turbo toyota 4 runner use these pistons(bore unknown) with BB chevy aluminum rods (can't remember the exact engine they came from). Moral of the story, if you have the money you can make anything happen.
