#93521, "TPS high/low voltage, 2k Idle and 3k fuel cut"

Well I got my car together but I got a few problems. I got a code for the TPS and it get fuel cut at 3000 RPM. The signal wire on the TPS harness is showing 12 volts. Sensor and TB were replaced. What should I look for and why would I get a positive signal on the signal wire when its not plugged in ?

Should show 12v+ anywhere on that harness.. it's a 5v sensor... that's very strange.

you have a wire crossed somewhere. Your saying at the tps plug you have a 5v and a 12v wire? What is the third wire? ground or is it the signal wire to the ECU?

the 12v should not be there so the question is "what wire is missing"?

Gotta be a short somewhere. Cut the signal wire about 4-5" off the ECU plug, see if it's 12V at the ECU, or 12V on the other side. if it's 12v+ at the ECu you have a problem, but if not, try running a new wire to the TPS until you can track down the short...

you just contradicted yourself? is it 12v/12v/Gnd or 5V/5V/Gnd?

If you are getting 5v/5v/gnd then you have a possible short. Do what dino said and isolate the wire at the ECU and test both sides to see if the 5v is comming from the ECU on the signal wire or 5V from the harness.

Mike, sounds to me that you have a f'd ecu. It should be reading the voltage not putting it out. Are you sure you have the correct wire? Also get rid of your 6 an oil supply line to the turbo and fix the blown motor then worry about that.

Make sure you are not looking at the 5v supply wire and you have the TPS signal wire. The TSP wire should be a brown with red strip if i recall correctly.

Sounds like ECU issue

Apparantly the wire throws off 5v if the harness is plugged in. So thats not the problem but I still dont know why the ECU says its too high or too low. If I recall right it ranged from .3 to 3.9

Still doesnt explain the bogging after 3k and not revving past 3k.

Heres a quick update.

The TPS signal wire reads 5V if unplugged. When plugged in it ranged from .3 to 3.9V. The car sputters and barely moves off the line. Once moving its fine aside from not being able to go past 3k RPM and if the open the throttle suddenly halfway it would slow down for a minute then finally kick in. The car idles at 2k after running for 2 min. If I reset the ECU the car will be move off the line for about a minute and then i guess goes into "safe mode". I got a CEL for EVAP and TPS. My EGR isnt hooked up or blocked off yet. Would my EGR cause this ? What else should I look for. I did some research and maybe my MAP sensor. I really need help cause im stuck away from home.

You should see .3 to 4.7 max on the tps with the car runing. There is a 5 volt reference (which has 5 volts) The signal wire (which will show 5 volts when unplugged) and the ground wire. Check resistance from the battery ground to the harness ground, there should very little. With the sensor unplugged use the CONNECTOR ground and check for 5 volts on the ref wire. If there is no voltage then you have a bad ground wire or the pcm is not sending ground. Plug the sensor to the tps and backprobe the connector on all 3 wires, connect your meter ground to the ground side of the connector. Now check for 5 volts to the ref wire. Then check the signal at idle it should fall between .3 & .9 volts at wot it should not go beyond 4.7 volts. If it only goes to 3.9 then the tb is not opening completely or the tps is bad. Did you replace the sensor before you had the problem or after?
