If you had the 95 sensors couldn't you just swap them in instead?? Or is there a considerable difference in the sensors between the 2 years?

im confused as to what you are actually doing. can you elaborate? the title of the post says "97 automatic talon engine into 95 manual eclipse" when i read this i believe that you took an engine out of a 97 talon and are putting it into a 95 eclipse. you didnt say specifically that you were swapping a tranny too. if you are just putting in the engine then it should drop right in. dont worry about the tranny stuff or swapping ecu's and running a whole new harness through your car and changing gauge clusters, etc. its just not necessary. Rather, there are some sensors on the 95 engine harness that will not mate with sensors on the 97 engine. the differences are the way the pins are shaped on the connectors themselves. the ones from the 95 will be round pins, the ones from the 97 will be flat pins. what you need to do is replace the sensors listed below that are currently on the 97 engine with the ones from the 95 engine

cam sensor
crank sensor
vehicle speed sensor
Also, the coil pack on the 97 has flat pins so replace it with the coil pack from the 95

i believe that is about it. does anyone else have any comments or would like to add anything?

edit: ignore if this has been answered in another section

That blue car got me boobies once

Thanks man.. thats what i ended up doing anyways.. (yes i did keep the 95 tranny in, so it was just a motor swap) I searched for a while and didn't find anything about any of this.. then the other day i was searching like crazy and found out that you could just switch the motor sensors. Makes my life so much easier.

Thanks to all that replied, you all helped! I hope to turn the key wednesday er thursday at the lastest. Wish me luck!

I too would like to thank you for the info. So basically if your just swapping engines(no matter what year) just use the sensors that were in the engine you are taking out od the car.

IE.. I have a 96 block I am rebuilding to go in my 98. Just use the 98 sensors in the 96 block and all will be good. emoji

You'll need the plug for the gear selection sensor from the 97 harness and rewire it to the 96 harness.

I spent 2 days trying to firgure it out.

Everything works but I just dont have direct access to my 2 and L gears.

Shoot me a PM when you need that diagram.
