Ok I have had this oil leek that was not bad until recently, I took a look today and traced it to where the transaxle connects to the transmission next to the plug (what is that plug???) How do I fix this???
Today the oil dripped down and blew back onto the exhaust and started a small fire but I got it out early because I knew where to look right away so no damage. I did not have a fire extinguisher until I saw the VW go up on here the other day so I went and got one.....not too late thank god.

That plug is most likely the drain plug for the transmission. Tighten it or get it replaced. The leak should stop. You sure it's plug or the is it the seals for the axles?

Sounds like an axle seal to me.

Well darkone that’s what I was thinking, I guess its time to do some tranny work.
I have never dropped my 5 speed tranny before so what things should I replace while I am in there? My tranny its self is in OK condition and my clutch is almost new so what seals and or gaskets should I replace?
BTW: if it was just a loose plug would it not be tranny oil all over and not motor oil?

OH wait a second, you replaced your clutch and you never relaced the seal? Is that what you did wrong? We'll you don't need to drop the transmission for pete's sake, it's heavy. If the seals are bad and needs to be replaced, just jack up the car and pull the axle out but watch out, gear oil is going to pour out, take out the seal and replace it w/ a new one from NAPA or something. No gaskets are involved in this refit.
