#92932, "Damn noise coming out at 5100 rpm"

Well, I still have this problem and it's starting to make me worry. Ever since my rebuild, I am having this strange noise come out right at 5100 rpm all the way up to redline. It only starts at 5100 rpm and when it's in gear. It sounds like a hissing noise and it's kinda loud. It's not a vac leak like a few others told me, and it definately isn't my freakin air filter sucking air, although it does sound like that. If i'm in neutral, there is no sound, so I'm thinking it's gotta be the tranny or something like that. I just don't get it and I hate when I can't figure something out. Please help me on this one. Thanks.

I'm NA as well at this time. I am at 8.8:1 comp and crower 2's with just about every single supporting mod to the engine as well. Any ideas? It does sound like a spinning noise that hits at 5100rpm. Hmm. Anyone?

maybe someone installed a turbo in our engines without us knowing, cause it almost has a hint of sound like spooling, haha

my car used to do that for awhile too... it sounded just like i'd gained a turbo overnite. are you absolutely sure you have no vac leaks? i did eventually find one've my intake gaskets was leaking and i haven't heard it since i replaced the gasket. it kinda turned into more of a regular constant hiss once the leak got bigger. but by that time i was having more obvious indicators like hanging rpm's and high idle. i didn't notice any performance changes when the leak first started. just that string turbo-ish sound. mine was on the pass side btw. just something you might wanna look into.

p.s.
haha i got here following your link in the *other* thread...

Hey, thanks for the reply. I have looked and looked and looked for a vac leak, and nothing. I just don't know anymore, maybe I'll just wait it out and see what happens. Thanks.
