I was just wondering if there is supposed to be any play (left to right movement) on the butterly shaft? If not then I have a problem, I have no codes but I have a weird surge when i come to a stop. the car will drop down to 1000 rpm's the go back up to 2000 then slowly go back do or just clunk when it downshifts. I have checked for vacuum leaks but not all of the places, Mainly the throttle body and the vac. lines on the back of hte manifold.

is it factory? have you had it bored out? if so, how much light can you see aound the plate when you hold it up?
you should not have any play in the shaft. if you have more than a thin peice of papers gap between the plate and body, thats yours surge problem... all other things being good.
USED TO HAVE...Everything you wish you had, and then some...

The throttle body is completely stock no mods whatsoever. Is there a nut that I can tighten on the shaft to get rid of the play or do I need another throttle body?

no, the throttle shaft is held in place by a circlip around the shaft directly under the TPS sensor housing. you getting side to side play indicates space between the inside bore and the throttle plate. that would explain the idle surge
