O-k here's the story......Me and a friend went to a party, ended up parking on a curb, and drug bottom. Well, came out from the party...drug bottom leaving. About 3/4 the way home (10 miles) the oil light came on. Well i figured i could make it too my friends house (about 5 miles) all of a sudden the car feels like it looses total acceleration. And all my gauges go dim, also loose what felt like my power steering. Pulled off in some old ladies driveway, and looked under the car. My oil filter was smashed and leaking BAD. So called the parentals had them come pick me up and headed for wal-mart to get a new filter and oil. I put the new filter on, and filled her back up with oil. Tried to start her, and she wouldnt turn over, (like the battery was dead. Tried jumping it off, it would turn over just not enough for the engine to fire. After repeated tries it eventually started and ran for like 3 to 5 secs. then died. What have I done? Did I blow the engine or did the alternator or something like that crap out? What do you all suggest I do....need answer's fast, cuz the car is still in that old ladies driveway! Thanks everybody!

Is the engine making a knocking noise when you did get it started? How much oil did you think you lost, the full capacity of the oil pan?

Well I'm gonna ask some dumbass questions. Did the oil light go out? Were there any wierd noises (rocks tumbling around, clapping, knocking)? Did the car jerk around any? Here are my thoughts from the little info you gave. Just b/c you lose oil pressure, gives no reason for a No-Start condition, UNLESS you have seized the engine. It doesn't sound like you've seized any pistons or welded any rods b/c you said the engine cranks but no fire. Well my guess would be crank her(w/jump) and check for fire @ plugs. Personally since you're in a bind just check one. If 1 works then you should get a sputter. Double check to make sure that you ONLY did damage to the oil filter. Make sure that no lines are pulled apart or you didn't bust the O2 sensor off. CHeck for stored codes too. Hope you get her running. Pray that your car is going to do a PROLONG commercial imatation.(god those comm. are stupid)

Sorry man your engine might be gone. Do a compression test to see what up with the engine.

Yup, sounds exactly what happened when I shot a rod out the back of the block in my ride. When I shifted from 1st to 2nd (that's when the rod shot out, right before I took it out of gear) I had no acceleration when I got back on the gas. After that the car wouldn't start unless you gave it allot of gas, but that bitch was knocking like crazy when I did get it started. Is your car still holding oil?

not to sound like an @$$ but if you read the manual it says to pull over right away if your oil light comes on, 5 miles is a really long time to be driving if there is in fact an oil problem, oil is the lifeblood of th motor, so if you lose too much, the motor is going to suffer.

O-k went back this morning.....tried jumping it off.....fired right up the fisrt time i tried it. Ran just like normal.....no knocking or weird sounds at all. And I have already checked under the car and that was the only thing even scratched. So hopefully everything is good. Thanks for all the advice! Everything bad seems to be happening to me lately! it sucks! hahahaha! I need some good luck!

No, If everything bad was happening to you, your engine would have siezed up on you.. Don't ever drive on an oil pressure light unless you know damn well sure that you have plenty of oil... Spinning a bearing when your low on oil is a common problem with our engines... Don't overfill unless you want to blow out some gaskets.... And I'd say your luck is doing just fine, I'd be sitting back, smoking a J, and feeling great that my engine is still running after driving on little oil for 5 miles... when you ruptured your filter, I would think you would have lost all your oil by those 5 miles, cause the oil pressure would just spray oil out... When I was in highschool, a guy with a miata engine in a escort(dont ask, but it had NOS and wasnt too slow) well anyways, he hit a bump, cut a gasket in his oil pan, ran out of oil, and the engine siezed right then... A few weeks after he owned the car....

Yea i know im pretty damn stupid for driving on it....and yea my luck on not F*cking up my engine is pretty good! Well I've learned my lesson though! hahaha

I guess i spoke too soon......goin to a friends house tonight. Engine started knocking bad!....turned the car off right then. Im gonn have it towed tomorrow. If it is screwed bad, what kind of engine do u guys reccomend? My friend said a Spoon Sports would kick @$$. Today deffinately sucked

Spoon doesn't make engines for an eclispe, they only do honda shit.

Started knocking huh? Got some questions for ya, since you drove without oil you probably spun your bearing. Now how far have you drivin since you oil filter got fucked up? Have you drivin it hard? If you drove it hard I am willing to bet there is a nice size hole in the back of the block where you shot a rod through. Can you see oil on your firewall? Can you smell any oil? What is the oil level in the pan, is it full?

Sorry for all the questions but I am just trying to shed some light on what happened for ya.

I have drove probably about 20 miles. And about 10 of those miles were on the interstate doin about 80-85. Yea i smell burning oil or something.....But also it looks like on the top of the engine there is a small plastic pipe that goes into the intake manifold. That has a big crack in it. What caused that? I checked the oil and it is still normal. Also i looked around the back of the engine and saw no oil. How bad is a spun bearing?

Well good it doesn't sound like you shot a rod. The bearing is a bad problem but repairable if not too bad. The pipe going into you intake manifold where is it coming from, your valve cover, pastic or ruber? Only way to know is to open that bottom end up and investigate how bad the bearing is.

That pipe is hard plastic. And it wasnt busted until the engine started knocking tonight.

If the bearing is really bad, how much am i looking at as in a repair? Would I be better off getting a 420A out of a junk yard if i can find it and putting it in there? What is the difference in the engine that i have and the 420A??

If you have a RS or GS model eclipse that is the engine thats already in your car. The 420A is the only engine that comes in the Non Turbo models. Nothing will be different. Don't know how much a repair on the bearing would be, I had to get a new block because I shot a hole through it when I blew the engine due to the spun bearing.

I think the pipe you are talking about is the PCV valve pipe. When I put on a new PCV valve the old tube was dried up so bad that it cracked and crumbled when I tried to get it off. I am not sure if a leak in the PCV valve tube would make the car run weird.
