#92271, "put on a new UDP and car runs like shit now..wth?"

like the title says, i put an ebay UDP on, and it ran fien for like a day or 2, and since then, the car doesnt start up right, like normally when i would start it, rpms will go to about 2000-2100 and stay for a second and gradually drop to about 1000 til warm, but now when i start it up, it goes to about 1000, and almost seems like its gonna die, but it doesnt, and when i go to drive it, it almost stalls as soon as i take my foot of the gas, or come to a stop, it almost feels as if when i touch the brakes, the car shuts off, it doesnt even seem like its running, and the rpms will drop like 1 like b4 0 but go up a little, then back down to about 200 and idle there, whats wrong?

Start hunting Vac leaks, clogged PCV, the UDP is not your problem. make sure you didnt knock off a vac line for the emmissions equip by the pass shock tower. Your problem is vacuum related which is why touching the brakes makes a difference for the worst.

well what vacuum lines could it be, and why would the problem have started 2 days later instead of right away?

Could it have something to do with the alternator belt... something to keep the battery from holding a strong charge? It could've been fully charged and slowly lost it over the 2 days? Just a thought...

its definatly not related to the pulley like the first guy said look for a vac leak maybe something was loose but still attached and over the 2 days it either broke off or wore off, but like said b4 if you hit the breaks and your rpms dive its a vacume cause our brakes are vacume assisted. make sure your belts are tight and look for a leak.

well what all vac lines r there, so i know what all to check. and also, since this has been happening, there is weird noises comin from the pulley, squeeking noises, i guess belts not to tight, but then this other noise and it sounds like its coming from the pulley itself, and it only seems to make these noises when the engines cold

start the car and look at the pulley, it should not wobble or nothing the high pitch squeel you hear is from incorrect tension on the belts, this is a good place to start get your tension on the belts good and tight, assuming you bought the right belts it should not be a problem discribe the noise that the pulley its self is making? ive never herd of that, as for the vac lines the most comon ones to come loose are the ones behingd the intake mani. only hoses in the area of the belts i know of are the ones that hook into the cruze control box behind the alternator. but there might be more, just retrace your tracks, go back and check everything, and get rid of that squeel, it wil rouin your belts, also how did you put the pulley back on?

me and my dad did the work, and it was almost impossible to get the old pulley off cuz i didnt have enough room cuz the frame or whatever was in the way, so we pryed the old one off, and used a hammer and a piece of wood to get the new one in place, becuz there wasnt even enough room to get the new, smaller one passed the frame and into the hole for the pulley to sit into, we had it sit at an angle and hammered away til it got in place and tightened it up as tight as it would go. i dont have cruise so that eliminates that vac line. and the noise it makes is harder to describe, but like i said, it does wobbles sometimes...damn aftermarket crap

its not the aftermarket crap it sounds to me like you caused some serious damage to the area, first you need a 3 jaw puller 5 ton to get the old pulley off, you should never pry at anything to get it off you might have broken something there or ever worse bent something causing permanent damage to your crank. also the method you mentioned about putting the pulley back on isnt the greatest idea either, thank god you used a 2x4 but again prying and pounding is not the way to work on our cars although i like to sometimes. also if you removed everything you needed to to get to the pulley you should have had plenty of room to get it off wobble=Bad something is bent and now after hearing your proceedure id have to say you bent something. might have to take it all off and replace some parts, oh and my brother has an ebay cheepo udp on his 96 got the pulley for 20 dollars and its not much different than my afx wich costed me 140 dollars, his has been fine for over a year now

well we used a 3 jaw puller, and once it was out of the hole there was really no room was so ever to just take it, the back part of the pulley was still inside of the crank, and there wasnt enough clearence, the top half was bein blocked off becuz of the wheel well, and there was no other way than the way we did it to get it out and off the crank

you have to take off the side motor mount to make the crank pulley clear the frame thats where you went wrong it does sound like you bent the UDP putting it on hate to tell you this but you are probably going to have to replace that pulley emoji

if you're lucky you're gonna have to just replace the pulley, hopefully you didn't bend the crank, now THAT would be a bitch, but if you used wood that should have softened the impact, so you're probably safe, just be careful

yeah, you more than likely screwed your self on that deal. I would redo everything you just did, and do it right. Drop the motor down, using a jack with a block of wood to support it,pull the pulley off, make sure the thing ain't bent. Then when you're ready to put it back together, heat your pulley in the oven on 550 for 20-30 min, and run like a bat out of hell to the car and slide it right on no problem. It sucks I know but, That is the price to pay for not doing it right the first time.

most of the people who sell this stuff on ebay dont even know where the stuff goes on the car muchless what it does, thats why this site was created to give all 2gnt owners a better idea of how there car works through trial and error, next time you do anything on your car search this site for a good half hour for info on how to do it right. and as with anything your gonna make mistakes as long as you learn from them youll do fine with your car
